The Last Door is a horror game created by a Spanish team of programmers in 2012. The game plays like classic point and click adventure games, and it takes inspiration from HP Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe to create a scary atmosphere and a thrilling story. It also uses a simple pixel art style to make it look like an old, retro game.

The Abbey of Crime

La Abadía del Crimen was the best videogame created in the golden age. Created by Paco Menéndez, the game was critically aclaimed, and became famous for its difficulty and complexity.
Nowadays, whenever we get stuck on a game we can instantly find a guide on the Internet, but in the 90's, there were no walkthroughs. This game took full advantage of that. Players need to solve the mystery of the Abbey, and have 7 days to do so. However, it is possible to fail the investigation by not finding clues or important items. If this happens, you lose the game after 7 days pass, and you get expelled from the Abbey. This forces players to explore, experiment, and use trial and error until they find all the secrets of the Abbey.

In 2016, a remastered version of the game was released on Steam. This version was more streamlined, and the game constantly informed the player of what was the next step in the investigation, making it much harder to lose the game in that version.

We use that term to refer to a period of time that lasted approximately from 1983 to 1992. During that time, Spain was the main creator of 8 bit software, specially for the Spectrum pc. After the jump to 16 bits consoles was made, all of the companies that programmed software slowly disappeared, and production came to a halt. However, many quality videogames appeared in that time, and this served as inspiration for many Spanish programmers that would create their own masterpieces many years later.

When people think about Spain, the first thing that will probably come to their minds is how we are very passionate about sports, specially football, or how some of our culture involves bullfighting, or typical stereotypes like that. But what most people don't know, is that Spanish people can also be serious, and work hard to create masterpieces. And it just so happens, that once upon a time, Spain was the world's best place to create software and videogames.

Maldita Castilla is a game created in 2012 by Juan Antonio Becerra. It is a tribute to the classic side scrolling games like Ghost and Goblins created in the 80's. The game is a 2d platformer that looks and plays like the classic arcade games, with fast paced action, and different endings depending on how many secrets you find.

UnEpic is a role playing game created in 2011 by Francisco Téllez de Meneses. It is a dungeon crawler that takes inspiration from the 1980 game Maze of Galious. As a result, the game looks quite different from other modern games, and features mechanical elements that you don't see very often.

Players have to explore a huge castle in a 2d platformer, leveling up, learning skills and magic, finding better equipment, while controlling a character with clunky movements. An interesting aspect of the game is that the chambers of the castle are pitch black, and you have to manually lit up all of the torches you can find. Sometimes, lighting up everything in a room will reveal secrets.

While most programmers made tributes to their favorite games by creating their own, others wanted to express their love for videogames in a more... peculiar way. Charnego Translations is a group of Spanish programmers that specialize in taking games, and translating them in a very vulgar version of Spanish, using insults, local expressions and language features that can make it difficult to understand, but results in a very funny way of playing those games, although it can require some cultural context to find it worthy of laughing at it.
Their most famous works are La Lellenda de la Cerda, and Yonkey Island
