Right now I am trying to decide between learning to play the flute, or painting. I want to learn to play the flute because I have a goal to learn many instruments throughout my lifetime. Also, playing multiple instruments is required to become a band teacher, so this will also help me achieve my goal of becoming a high school band director. On the other hand, last year I took an art class, and I really enjoyed it. And I was hoping that this year I could take a photography class, but it just didn't fit in my schedule. I would like to complete photography challenges to see my progress throughout the school year. My progress at the end of this year will show me how much I have improved photography, or playing the flute. I hope that my progress in playing the flute is that I will be able to play it without having to look at the fingering chart, and I hope my photography skills get way stronger throughout the year.

There are a few people that may be able to help me learn to play the flute. The first person that comes into my mind is Mrs. Hoeft. I got to know Mrs. Hoeft through playing in the pit for the musical. Mrs. Hoeft's main instrument is the flute, so she might be able to give me some tips and tricks. Also, Mr. Smith my band teacher will know how to play the flute because, well he has to. Other people that may be able to help me is Halle Stiverson, and Megan Booms who are also in band and play the flute. I have several options of people to learn from about playing the flute. For photography, I can get some help from Mrs. McIntyre, and maybe a student, Jackie Iskow.

After Researching about cameras and camera tips today, I realized this is something I'm looking forward to doing. Cameras cost A LOT of money. I'm glad my mom already has one so I don't have to invest in one at the moment. It might be something that I will want to invest in a little way down the road. I figured that I can set monthly goals for my self with photography techniques whether it is in nature, sports games, animals, or portraits. I will set goals for myself and accomplish them well. I'm hoping not to only take pictures and meet my goal, but I want them to be good pictures. By the end of the year, I will be able to present to the class, my favorite and best looking pictures.

Instead of any of these two things, I chose to bake. I know, it seems boring, but at my house we could use the baked goods through the week, and it would give me good practice to be prepared by the end of the year when I have to share with the class. I've already perfected making banana bread and it is soooo good. Next, I want to make carrot cake.

So far this month, I haven't had much progress. I've been so busy with homework, work, NHS, and piano lessons that I haven't been able to find much time to bake. But, I'm setting tonight aside to bake a couple loaves of banana bread. I've baked banana bread twice before, and both times it has turned out great. I use a recipe in one of my mom's cook books that calls for eggs, baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, flour, and vanilla. I'm surprised I remember everything that's in it. Oh yeah, I guess bananas are in it too, duh. But, I know you have to mash the bananas and mix in all of the other ingredients.

WHERE AM I AT/WHY?
Right now I am way behind on my goals. My baking progress was supposed to begin in November. My goal was to bake three different dishes every month of the school year. The way school has been going for me and extra-curricular activities, I haven't had much time to bake. I know I may spend some time watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix when I could be baking, but other than that I have been very busy with piano lessons, pit band for the musical this coming spring, hockey games, Christmas parties, and my job at the thrift store. Also just about every night I am just about swamped with homework in at least three of more core classes. Anyways, back to my personal project, in November I was supposed to bake carrot cake, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and a pumpkin pie. That is a lot of baking for me to do while taking AP classes and doing extra-curricular activities. Seeing that I obviously cannot handle baking three things a month. I have finally decided to lower it to one. Now until I get one thing baked this month, I might think about baking a second. But I need to plan each month as they come. Planning the plan sheet in October all the way to the end of the school year was not a good idea for me. I need to take it one month at a time. I have been putting off making banana bread for months now, and that is probably the easiest thing for me to make. Banana Bread is my goal for the month of January. There is no ifs or buts this month, I will get it done. I have free time almost all of this week. No piano, no work, except my birthday is Friday, and there's a basketball game Tuesday, and I have to go to my Grandma's Tuesday, a hockey game tonight, Tri-County Honors Band and Pit is Thursday. Ugh, anyway I'll really try to find this week to bake the Banana Bread and if not, I'll bake it next week.

So I am really going to try this month to carve some time out to achieve my goal of just baking a loaf of banana bread. I can do it! For upcoming months, I have made it my goal to bake simple things like cupcakes, strawberry cheesecake, blueberry muffins, and a tres leches cake for my spanish class where she has people volunteer to bring in Spanish foods to celebrate. However, If I had to present something for the exam, I would get baking. Some things I would choose to bake are some easy simple things such as banana bread, a few different types of cookies, and maybe some cupcakes.

With my remaining time left in the school year, I am not going to continue the plan I made at the beginning of the year obviously since I missed a bunch of the goals, but I will continue to bake for sure. I will bake with my mom and sister for our Easter get-together. I do enjoy baking, but with little time on my schedule, it is hard to find a nice home made recipe to make. I usually only have time for making cakes out of mixes, but I will try to do something different this year.
