Our first idea for the populous was people who were ready and determined for change, but we thought building the place would be too similar to a center. We also specified what type of opportunity we want to promote .

We are still discussing our specific populous and are unsure on what to do. We have thought about creating a populous who want new experience. We are also discussed that the location of our place would be a peninsula, because it is open and convenient for people with a diverse environment. We also have discussed about housing which is capsule like with utilities. We talked about what shape our land form do it plays an important role. The base would be a semi-ellipse because the shape flows well with a peninsula. The base would also be covered in blue paper with the painted land mass attached towards the board to make the peninsula higher than the water.

At the beginning, we felt discouraged that there were only 3 people in our group that aren't in camp, Brandon, Darren, and Anieka . Even with the low numbers, we still made decent progress. there was little to no talk, just typing.
We took a while to find out information about all 7 definitions because we looked up what each word means in an art and design perspective, not a dictionary definition. We had to make sure that each word was defined as full in depth as possible so that we can make an accurate representation of all 7 words. Near the end of class, we started planning on how we should design our representation. We started by grouping the American Ideals and thinking about how it would relate to each principal of design.

We finalized on one part of our design representation today. This one part would incorporate 4 concepts of design:order, composition, tension, and harmony. At first, the design looked too much like a crown, so we modified the shape of the design so that the design looked less like a crown . To incorporate the fifth element of design, light, we made a very simplistic structure. Because the design needs to resemble independence, we made a simple shape glued on a bright background. The shadow of the simple shape would resemble independence while using light to resemble it.

Starting the day out, we were frustrated because we realized that we needed to make seven SEPARATE structures, not one, so we used the two parts we made to resemble light and tension, so we had to make five more structures. One of the structures we made was a small abstract design made to resemble harmony and unity. We used two harmonic colors, green and yellow, to create a complex design so that the colors work together to achieve a common goal of holding an object. The second structure we made had movable objects to show how balance can affect how one's attention focuses more on "heavier" sides of the structure or design.

Starting the day, we discussed what the people who stayed did during the past three days. The three people who stayed discussed what they did over the past few days which were to research a lot on each word and to build all 7 structures to represent the 7 words. We discussed which designs worked well which was the balance structure that showed the "weight" of designs and how the concept work. The design did that by including shift able objects that influence where the perspective of one's eyes go. There are also designs that didn't work like the harmony design because the flow of the design expressed the opposite of what harmony is. The structure had many rough edges, so it was the opposite of what harmony is supposed to be which is smooth. The people who did go to camp discussed that the main ideal in the camp was teamwork because a lot of the activities were related to teamwork like a trust fall involving a pulley and eight other people trying to safely lower one person. Lastly, after talking with Mrs. Strand, we decided to change our ideal from opportunity to experiential learning because the idea of hands-on nature activities expressed more experiential than actual opportunity.

After our team experienced the circle activity done today, it helped some of us understand the principles of design a lot more and make connections(which in turn helped even more). After the discussion on the activity, Ava proposed a new idea on how the layout of our land form should be(in the picture below). We all agreed on the idea after a few changes like adding more bridges to each separate part and adding a pond. After we got the layout finalized, we talked to Mrs.Strand about the layout. She stated to implement the principles of design to the whole shape of the land mass, but keep the idea of a peninsula. We ended by having each team member come up with their own land mass shape.

We started by going one by one for each person presenting their idea of what the land mass should be. We discussed which concepts on each different land mass layout is good to decide what our final layout will be. In the end, we couldn't come up with a satisfying design or layout, but we narrowed down what the land mass will communicate. The land mass will have both a smooth and rocky surface, open area, balance, and a nature invoking shape. We decided to talk to Mrs. Strand to help us on coming up with ideas. She suggested to try to come up with specific experiences and then base the shape of the land mass on the different activities we listed. She helped us more that our society is about opportunity for experiences, so each different experience should be exciting and rare to discover. We started coming up with several ideas on the experiences including being an atom in the air, being a fish in deep water, and what it feels like to be an ant.

We started the day by discussing what our scale should be. Some people suggested 1cm is 3ft, 1in is 3 or 2ft, 1/2 in 2ft, and 1cm 2 or one feet. We concluded that our scale would be 1 inch equals 3 feet. After getting the scale, we figured the houses would be 9 feet in real life or 3 inches in the model and the tree would be 15 feet in real life or 5 inches in the model. After settling the scale, we decided to come up with a new land mass as shown in the picture below. After coming up with the land mass, we talked to Mrs. Strand about our new design. She liked the fact that the land mass communicates opportunity in the wide entrance and that the main part expresses symmetry in two lines. With our new land mass, we went on to design what the housing on our society would look like.

At the same time, some of us were updating the diary entry for the past two days. After cutting the board, we decided to cut curves on the corners because it shows the circulation of society and how the free flow of society would bring opportunity. When the curves were cut, we covered and taped the whole land form in blue butcher paper. To make the land mass, we resized white butcher paper to match the dimensions our land form. After resizing, we drew the land mass on the white butcher paper.

Marisa, Erika, Ava, Darren, and Brandon met at the diamond bar library. We decided to go over on the specifics of the design of our experiences. We first started with the ant experience in which one would feel what being an ant is. We decided that the ant experience would take place in an ant hill made from stacked dirt and tubes. After that, we decided on the measurements of the entrance, the light holes, and the whole dome itself, but we spent too much time on the dome(2-3 hours), so we had to move quickly. For the water module experience, we decided to use magnetic suits with magnetic floaties. This experience is meant for the individual person to be an atom trying to attract other atoms to become a water molecule. We tried to come up with ideas for the underwater volcano experience, but we couldn't come up with a satisfying idea to work with the experience. Next, we worked on our deep sea fish experience in which one group of people, the predators, would hunt another group of people, the prey. Each group has similar colors, so the neon lights would be made from helium and krypton. Lastly, we worked on the bird experience in which one has a flight pack to fly and gather materials for either food or to make a nest.

We started working at lunch to finish making the bird experience trees and the docks. The docks were finished by adding clay on top of cardboard while the big trees for the bird experience was made with extending branches on the top for better support of the fake moss. These events lasted through out lunch and part of the block. After finishing the two above tasks, a few people started making the ant hill experience and the deep sea water experience. The ant was done by using toilet paper rolls and the dome for the deep sea water experience(where the activity takes place) was done by creating small squares on cardboard so that the cardboard is easy to fold. Mr. Garcia went to our land form and told us to change the scale of the house and make the house 2 stories, make the waves less bright, put more housing on the bridges, and replace the clay dock with something else.

We started working during lunch like we did yesterday to put together the ant hill and the houses near the dock. Ms. Strand commented on our elements part about how we over complicated the assignment and we could have an element or compound as basic as water or wood. Mr. Garcia also gave us feedback on our landform. He said how we have more water than land and we should add houses offshore for a home for the permanent visitors. This helps create another community that could join with the visitor community that join together into a society. Erika was working on the Padlet and presentation, Louis created the walls for the houses near the dock, Marisa and Ava helped create the ant hill, Marisa and Brandon finished the pathway for the houses, Brandon repaired the dock, Anieka painted all the houses and helped with the trees, Darren smashed rocks for the path and helped with the trees. We plan to meet at Anieka's house after school to finish the landform. All we need to do is finish the houses near the dock and the ones off shore.

During break, we received feedback from Garcia and Strand. Strand told us that the houses were still too small with the scale of 1 inch:6 feet, so she suggested to have a separate scale for the houses to make them bigger in real life. Garcia told us to add more trees, cover the cardboard on the dock houses, move the dock houses so that they are on the dock, fix the extending bridges so that they don't look like they are on the dock but on the edge, and make the extending bridges to the permanent residence consistent in design. We started to work on what Garcia told us. Two people would be working on the trees while other people worked on moving and covering the dock houses. After both tasks were done, the extending bridges were removed and remade to fit what Garcia told us. In addition, we added support beams on the bottom of the extending bridges to make the bridge more structural. At the same time, we decided to finish some of the pathways from the dock bridge to the main land. Instead of rocks, the new maths on the two separate islands are made of twigs on just the borders.

Brandon, Marisa, Anieka, and Erika all created a new design for the decision making process. The place will have a clear bottom to show the broad open of ideas. There will be two pillars, one dilapidated and one that looks great representing the pros and cons system. There will also be vines emerging outwards and showing a more open feel and showing opportunity.

We started to think of new ways to improve our representation of the decision making process. Our thoughts led to two pillars with vines in the middle with chairs surrounding the building. It would replace the current decision making process building. Our new idea would be a place to think and relax while the monument itself symbolized our decision making process. Marisa was sketching the details of the drawing while Ava and Erika worked on the vines for the building. The rest of us helped think about ideas to improve the overall design and meaning behind the symbol. We cut the original decision making building out from the land form. The group split up and started to search for clear plastic and to measure the length of the vines.
