We are very poor and dad is going to go to America. He says that he will get money so we can go there. My mom says he’ll be back very soon. I’m still worried that he won’t come back. We went to the dock and arrived at the ferry. Then, once he was aboard the ferry we waved goodbye to dad. Mom keeps assuring me everything is going to be fine.

It’s been two months and we kept receiving money from dad. We have been slowly saving up for our trip to America. Today we got enough money and got a ferry. My mom said we would get to America very soon and see dad. I was very excited to see dad after two months. We boarded the ferry and got our last look at our homeland.

The ride to America was horrible! There were rats and roaches everywhere! I couldn’t even find a place to lie down! Mom and I had to eat potatoes, lukewarm soup and stringy beef. It was terrible. The beds were stacked up on each other and we were squished in with other people. I couldn’t even sleep! The worst part was that we had to do that two weeks straight!
