The book My Brother Sam is Dead takes place in Redding, Connecticut. Its written in the first person point of view. from Tim's point of view. At the beginning of the novel Sam announces that is is going to join the Patriots (or the Colonies Army) and Father gets upset because he doesn't want Sam involved in the war. Later Sam steals the family gun, the Brown Bess, but Tim tries to steal it back to save Father's life. A while after that Mr. Heron asks Father if Tim can take some letters down to Fairfield, and Father says no. Tim lies to Father so he can go to deliver the letters anyway, but found out that it was just a test. Then Father takes Tim to Verplancks Point where they run into cowboys. On their way home from Verplancks Point Tim gets away from the cowboys, but they take Father. At the end of the book Sam is back in Redding but gets accused of being a cattle thief. The book ends with Sam being given the death penalty and being shot.

I thought this book was good. There was some things that were predictable in the book. It was good because the point of view it was written from. Other than that, it was an interesting book. I would recommend this book to history classes to read if they are learning about the American Revolution or United States history.
