I am interested in a career in journalism or communication.
I am taking this class because I have always been interested in global issues, especially  climate change and therefore environmental management. Combined with my interest for Antarctica I chose to take this class as a summer elective.

As for travel I have been to Australia, however other than that I haven’t travelled much apart from idly traveling around the north island and the top of the south island. However I do plan on traveling all around the world.

I'm Kreig, a full-time Bachelor of Environmental Management student in Invercargill, undertaking this extra paper at UC in a field I am very interested in. 

42 years old, I'm originally from Queensland, Australia, although rather than where I'm FROM, it's more important to know where I BELONG. Aotearoa - and more specifically, Te Waipounamu - is my turangawaewae. 

Some might say I've led an interesting life. I spent 10 years in the Royal Australian Navy as a submarine medic, have cooked on a remote cattle station, lived and worked as a kayaking guide in Vietnam, am a first aid instructor, teaching the fire department their medical skills, and have worked in various guiding positions since arriving in NZ 6 years ago. I am currently awaiting citizenship, and volunteer as a member of Coastguard and as a marine mammal medic for Project Jonah. 

I am undertaking this Antarctic paper with the view to applying for the Antarctic Studies Masters degree once I graduate my Bachelor's degree. Like Daniela, my passions are ecology and ecotourism. I have no children of my own, but I do have 15 nephews and nieces; I'm cool Uncle Kreig. 😁

A couple of quick, fun facts about me:
1. Anytime I go to Hooker Valley, I swim (shorts and t-shirt) in the glacial lake. It's become a bit of a ritual. 
2. I have been stung by a box jellyfish - actually, that wasn't fun at all. 
3. I once parked a submarine where the international dateline crosses the equator and, dressed in drag, had a bbq and swam in 5km-deep water with my fellow crew. 

As well as this paper I am also undertaking a full-time summer internship with Environment Southland, and some casual guiding into Fiordland and Aoraki/Mt Cook NP, so it's a busy summer, for sure. Unfortunately this means I will not be able to participate live in the Thursday QandA sessions. So there you have it. I traveled to Japan in 2016 as a part of a school trip, and I hope to return someday when I understand more of the language, and hope to study some of the insect fauna there.

I am taking this course as I needed an extra 15 points to complete my bachelors and this course looked like an interesting way to increase my knowledge about an area of the world I hadn't learned much about already. 

I will be moving onto a Masters next year with my research project looking at behavior in kea, mostly centered around play behavior and expressions of joy in non-human animals.

I go by the name Oscar and am finishing up my degree in computer science and mathematics. I am from Melbourne and nothing is special about it. I'd love to travel to Iceland and am planning to go there in 2024. I currently work as a senior software engineer and help mentor incoming interns. Hey guys, I’m James and studying for a BSc in geography. Originally from a groovy little place called Lake Hawea, just outside of Wanaka, I am now into my second year at UC and enjoying it! 
I have a young family- my partner and a 2 ½ year old wee boy who is full noise almost every waking minute. Between family and uni life, I enjoy getting a bit of mountainbiking and kitesurfing in. Previous to UC, I worked in the rope access industry, mainly in the Western Australia mine scene although as far abroad as Mauritius. I’ve also spent a few summer seasons in Canada and Europe, chasing the mountainbike dream. 
ANTA101 seems like it will complement the papers I am taking for the geography major quite nicely, as well as simply being a fascinating place to learn more about. Looking forward to the course!!
