From learning the "5 Dimensions of culture" (Hofstede and Hall as cited in Engleberg, Wynn, & Roberts, 2015, p. 48) in Key to Success, I feel it very crucial to know the concepts because many children and families from foreign countries all over the world are now living in Canada. As ECEs, we need to work with many families that reserve the languages, cultures, beliefs of their home countries. It's necessary to understand the diversity, know the cultural difference, and respect every family in the programs. This page discusses how the immigrant parents and their cultural background affect children, and I also enclose the communication and problem-solving strategies for conflicts.
