They carved them out of wood into beautiful decorative masks. When a boy gets their first kill while hunting the tribe has a small celebration to acknowledge the boy who got the kill. In the Eastern Woodlands the tribes all have a spiritual elder for curing sicknesses. Their was only one person to cure because the tribe believed that only special people can fight away the evil spirits that they believe causes the sicknesses.
