  • The word ISLAM has a two-fold meaning: peace, and submission to God. 
  • Requires a fully conscious and willing effort to submit to the one Almighty God.

    1. The declaration of faith (shahada) meaning, “There is no God but God (Allah), and Muhammad is His Messenger.”
    2. Prayer (salah) since they must Pray five times a day towards the holy city of mecca.
    3. Alms-giving (zakat) which is obligatory donation of a portion of a Muslim’s surplus wealth.
    4. Fasting (sawm) since they're expected to fast during Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, during daylight hours.
    5. Pilgrimage (hajj) where the pilgrimage to Mecca is a duty that every Muslim should perform during their lifetime.
    Some other beliefs are:
    • There is only 1 god
    • Paradise and Hell
    • Muhammed is the Prophet and creator of Islam
