Although I share similar ideas with him for the most part, I disagree with him on his thoughts about how not all monsters are the same. When I watch horror films i am usually on the edge of my seat because of so much suspense. I know little about the horror genre but i do know suspense is a major factor in it. I also know it could be a broad genre. I saw a movie on netflix about a CAR TIRE killing people, and even that was pretty scary.  Just like Russel said, its horror FICTION!!

It can also include ghosts, demons, or paranormal activity in general along with expanding on stories previously written like Frankenstein or Dracula. I also agree how suspense does help make the story more interesting and scary depending on how much detail you include. I like how he used the word "anticipation" or "tension" becuase those two words do define horror. I can relate to the fact that sometimes even though it's horror and a fiction novel I get scared of the idea that it could happen in real life. What makes a story truly scary is building suspense. The author explained in paragraph 2 that suspense can really be a hook, when giving hints about something and the fact that we don't know what is going to happen which leaves the readers wanting more. Or, it can be when you DO know something is going to happen because then you keep waiting for the scene to come up and hope your predictions were true. I know how suspense can truly hook a reader and create a horror effect because I am reading a horror book right now and all the suspense is keeping me on the edge of my seat and I just want to keep reading! Many other stories contain monsters but are not a part of the horror genre. For example, "Twilight". "Twilight" contains many vampires and werewolves, but it falls under the fantasy and drama categories. Quests, good versus evil, and consequences are also often found in stories that don't have to do with horror. A story that contains all three of these but isn't a part of the horror genre is "Excalibur". A man sets off on a quest to pull the almighty sword from the stone and wield it's power. The problem is with the consequences. The man soon becomes very power-hungry, self centered, greedy, and full of himself.
