Five years ago I went to visit my great grandmother while she was still alive. I told her how I fall in love. Then she started a story about her grandmother Anna and grandfather Oliver. In 1914 she tried to leave a county because of world war. On her long, long way she suddenly met one young man. That was love on the first sight. His name was Hans. He was very tall, handsome and blond-haired man. Grandma was very beautiful woman too. They were together throughout the war. But, one day when the war was almost over, grandma was wounded. It was very dangerous. She needed help but Hans didn't want to help her because he needed to save his life. She was alone for couple hours. But suddenly one German Oliver found and helped her. He helped her to recover, day by day they were together, and he told her that he loves her so much and he asked her to marry him. She said yes. War was over, and they married. They were together for the rest of their lives, and she never thought of Hans. I was very happy to hear that story, and I realized how hard love is.
Matea Hodak, Ivona Aščić - 1.a

John and Peter were two best friends since they were born. They lived next to each other for full 17 years in a small city of France. One day they were unexpectedly sent to war and they were very disappointed when they found out they aren't going to be on the same battlefield.

John had got a letter to serve on the East battlefield and on the other side Peter got a letter to serve on West battlefield. They didn't even had time to say goodbay because everything was in the massive rush. On East battlefield there was a tough battle and in because of that all of the medicines ran out very fast so anyone who was wounded had to go to the hospital. One evening John had to check front lines and by doing his task all of a sudden Germans sent a granade which ended up hurting him a lot. No one saw him, no one heard him, he was on his own. In the meantime on the West battlefield Peter and his friends had got a task. They had to deliver a bunch of medicines to the East battlefield. Peter never even thought that he would find his childhood friend again. But luckily for both of them Peter got just on time to help John with getting better. When they saw each other they were astanishment but in the same time John felt very safe and Peter felt very helpful for him. Peter had to took John into the nearest hospital and he stayed with him until he recoverd up entirely.

After John recovered Peter stayed with him on East battlefield so they could never be separated again. War maybe split them in the beginning but ended up separating them in the end.

Gabrijela Ivanjko, Vanja Mrvoš, 1.a

Do you remember that day when we met for the first time. We were just kids, we were 14, I thought that nothing could separate us, but then the high school came and after that the war begun. It wasn't even in the end of my mind that I will see you again neither did I think that I will fall in love with you again, specially not in nurse who will save my life in war. You were the light when I couldn't even see. My Amely. With this letter I want to thank you for every single minute that you had been taking care of me while I was lying wounded in the hospital. I woul also like to thank you beacause you spent more with me than other patients. I will never forget that kiss the night before I went to war. I can't explain you how much I miss you. I don't know the timing when this all will end but I hope that that time will come soon. At the moment I am in the trench full of people, mud and sickness. It's horrendous, but I will fight evean with my last breath, for you my dear. I won't let you down now, when I finally met you again. Whith this letter I want to tell you that I am still alive and I won't surrender . Don't worry about me, pray and belive because we will see each other again, I am shore.

Few years ago my great grand fathers father pased away. I found a secret diary in his belongings who will unravel incredible stories about love, friendship and disasters of war.
May 12 ,1916
Hello love, days without you are so long. I have constant fear for my life but I will fight and get back to you . Be careful , I love you , Charles.
For months Charles life was in danger. He was away from home but he had never forgotten about his fiance Anne. On every occasion he sent her letters describing horrors on the battlefield.
June 7, 1916
Its horrific here, many of my friends died. Its cold and we do not have much food, its hard to live in trenches. I can not wait to be back home. Take care, Charles.
One night a sudden attack happend. Charles along with other soldiers became a prisoner of war and that prevent him form sending letters to his fiance.
Silence reigned for months, Anne was losing hope that Charles would return home.
October 4, 1916
Charles I am woried, I did not hear from you for months. It was my birthday yesterday, I turned 21. I am really sad that you are not with me right now. I hope you are alive , Anne Paris October 1916.
After little less than a year Anne started slowly moving on. She enjoyed company of a young man Antonie. Because of the asthma, Antonie could not serve the army.

Anne found solace in him, the hope that her fiance would return, fading from day to day. Her feelings for Charles grew weaker, and although she did not want to admit, she quickly became involved with Antonie and their relationship grew stronger. From best friends they became lovers. She no longer felt any regret for losing her fiance. Antonie became her gretaest source of happiness and satisfaction. Soon after she found out that she was pregnant. With the pressure of their families they decided to get maried as soon as possible. On her wedding day, as she looked at herself in the beautiful wedding dress, Anne remembered all the beautiful moments she had with Antonie. But then an image of CHarles came into her eyes. Anne had not thought about him for so long that it was a shock to her, she was very sorry because she had loved him once. She was interested in his fate, how did he die? Little did she know that her wedding day will be a day that her long lost fiance will return. The moment Anne agreed to marry Antonie and told him fatefully yes an unexpected guest showed up at the door. It was Charles, almost two years since his last letter, standing face to face with the love of his life. He was shocked and felt betrayed. He couldn't say a word, tears were his only answer.Anne was confused but before she could react, Charles had already left. She had been looking for him for weeks, hoping she would have a chance to talk to him and explain everything to him. How scared and lonely she was , and that the pregnancy happened suddenly. But nothing, just silence. It was only after she gave birth to her daughter that she became aware of Charles's fate. In a moment of anger and disappointment, Charles returned to the battlefield of a broken heart the next day. He died on the day of their engagement anniversary. Anne and Charles are just one of the couples separated by war. Years went by Ann's daughter grew up to become a beautiful girl, but not a day passed when Anne did not remember the sadness on Charles's face the last time she saw him. Every day she prayed for his soul and forgiveness.

One day during world war some german troops entered a French town. One german solider was wounded. After a long fight, german troops started to retreat. The solider who was wounded was shot in his leg and coudn't even stand. He was laying on the floor and coudn't move or speak because he was very exhausted, so the other german soliders didn't have time to take him with them because they had to escape fast. One french solider spotted him and didn't know what to do. He knew that if other found him they woud kill him so he took him out of the town to the nearby village. In the village, a woman found him and took him to help him. He didn't speak french and she didnt speak german so they had no way to comunicate. When he got better he just left, because he had no way to say thank you and he returned to germany. Two years after the war ended the woman recived a letter. It was from the solider. He wanted to say thank you for saving his life. The solider had a wife who knew french and she helped him to write letter. She replyed to the letter and they started to comunicate. They even met in real life a few times and became a good friends.
Ema Grubisic, Lucija Barisic
