I love the idea of including all stakeholders in the SIP process. Too many times, key people are left out of the School Improvement Plan process and therefore some groups' interest are not being looked after. As an administrator, I really like what this article says about including all stakeholders as a way to make sure everyone's voice is being heard.

It's so important to outline specific action steps in a SIP. Like the article stated, it's not enough to just have a list of goals and objectives. It's important to map out the plan and let each member know how they play a role in executing that plan. As an administrator, I will plan on posting the goals that we have somewhere that teachers will be able to see them. Also I will refer to these goals in staff emails and staff meetings. This is also a good topic to discuss at vertical alignment meetings and PLC meetings when you have a group of teachers to discuss their input in the goals at the school and what they are doing to reach those goals!

I would agree that Step 4: Outlining Specific Actions Steps is a critical role in setting up a SIP, with the key word being SPECIFIC. It is easy to set goals, but the more the specific action steps, the more likely you and your school will reach those goals.
I think conducting a Needs Assessment is a crucial part of the SIP as well. Sometimes, on the surface, we may think what our schools greatest needs are, but with assessing all facets of the school through the use of data, that data may lean towards another goal that you may need to set for your school instead of what you thought was obvious.

I agree with what Andrew said about Step 4. Often times when I see a SIP the next steps to be taken are very vague. In the best interest of all involved, providing the faculty with a specific sections that they will take to improve growth at the school is vital.
Also, in looking at the needs of the school it is important that everyone has a clear understanding of what the specific needs are of the school. Again, being vague leads to staff misinterpreting what is expected to try and close gaps and increase growth.

Concerning SIP step 2, a thorough needs assessment is a vital part of the school improvement plan process. It is crucial that all stakeholders have a role in the data collection of determining needs. As an administrator, I could survey stakeholders such as parents, teachers, and community members in order to gauge the school's perceived needs. Additionally, test score/benchmark data as well as administrative and facilitator walk through data could be considered when determining needs.
