1. The author (Cherie Dimaline) lived with her grandma and sisters.  Her grandma would often tell them stories just like the elders in the book.
2. Cherie aimed The Marrow Thieves to young adults because she wanted to educate non indigenous peoples on their history.  She also wanted young indigenous adults to know that they're seen and heard.
3. Cherie had never written a book aimed towards young adults before, and yet the book got a lot of recognition and rewards.
