Greatest Risks

In the beginning of the semester we did our first project on a poster about the greatest risks of the internet. There was cyberbullying, cyberpredators, posting private information, phising, falling for scams, accidentally downloading malware, and posts that come back to haunt you. We got in a group with the same risk we obtained, and created a poster with 3 ways it's dangerous and 3 ways it can be avoided.

Folder/File Organization

In class we learned how to open our File Explorer, change the view of the files (big, small, amount of information, etc), create folders for each class, how to move/delete files and documents, and develop standard naming conventions (.pptx; .docx; .xlsx; etc). We had learned to roam our files and see our "H" drive for school use. Additionally, we were tought how to turn in assignments into the "Drop" folder (J drive) and "Assignments" folder (I drive).

Binary Code

In class we learned the basics of binary code with "1" and "0". We used Base 2 and wrote our names in binary code. When we used binary code it would get really messy with things like "01000001" or "01001101".

Hardware/Software Terminology

Bread, Cereal, and Salt Project

In class we were given a paper with slight grammar issues that we corrected and put together. We learned how to use footnotes, headers, superscripts, and pictures. We also used our data to create a bar graph using a "page break" to separate it from the text.

Cell Phone MLA With Word

In class we were given a document on how to properly use MLA format. We then copy and pasted information from another document provided by Mrs. Seto. The document was on the goods and bads of cell phone use in the current generation. We also learned how to properly site sources in our works cited page on the very last page that was separate.

Maze Project With Word

In class we used Microsoft Word to create a maze with the genre of our choice. I chose to do a zombie maze that I named "The Undead Maze". The objective was to use border lines and change them to create a maze with a start, finish, and monsters/objects in between.

Cereal Sodium Content (Chart)

In class we learned how to use Microsoft Excel. We were given a chart of data, and then had to copy that data onto Excel. We then found the total and average amount of sodium that each cereal had. We learned how to use formulas and create a bar graph with our data.

M&M Excel Project

In class we used all the skills we learned in Excel to create a chart on the count of M&M's of our own bag and 4 other classmates. We found the total, mean, median, mode, and color percentage of the M&M bag information we had gathered using formulas. We also formatted the data by first and last name. Finally, we created a pie chart and line chart of our M&M data.

All About Me Presentation

In class we were assigned a presentation about us. We had to do 5 topics: Intro, Early Years, Current Years, Hobbies and Interests, and Future goals and plans. Additionally, we had to incorporate a "home" button and buttons for every topic.

Programming Terminology

In class we did a vocabulary worksheet learning programming terminology. We learned words like debugging, parameters, loops, variables, functions, events, coding, conditionals, etc.

Frame Animation Part 1

In class we learned how to use Microsoft Powerpoint to make a word animated and go like "s", "sp", "spe", "spel", "spell", and go back down to "s". When we had programmed it we used time frames like something <1 per letter (slide).

Frame Animation Part 2

In class we learned how to use the application "Paint" to create our own "Frame Animation". We now incorporated the skills from part 1 and created an animation of our choice. Some people chose flower petals falling, or rain falling, but I chose something more complicated which was Minecraft. Though it took long and it was really challenging, I managed to pull through and finish my animation. I am proud of my work, and think my animation is pretty cool.

Formal Email

In class we sent a formal email to a teacher/administrator of our choice. We used skills like greetings, closures, and proper grammar. I sent one to Mr. Morris, my math teacher, explaining how he is a very good teacher and has to deal with tough people every day.

Graphing Calculator

In class we learned how to use a graphing calculator that we borrowed from Mrs. Seto. We learned how to switch modes and learned to use it to help calculate many multi-step problems. Although it was used for "math" we used it to learn the functions and terminology.

Breakout

In class we go to a website usually like "https://www.breakoutedu.com/....." to solve mind boggling puzzles. Sometimes there is geometry, math, clues, etc. They are very tricky and you need to think outside the box for most of them. For example bolding letters of states like "CA, AL, MI, MS, etc." to try to find a route or solve a word clue for the mystery. It was fun and very challenging at the same time.

Scratch Project 3

In class we learned how to make a trivia game, or Q&A. We asked questions that had answers. If the answer was correct the background changes, and if it was wrong it asks again until you get it right. At the end the person asking question does dance moves.

Scratch Challenge Project

In class we learned how to use challenges and build our own mini game. I used 5 challenges which was incorporating how to get big and small, how to change backdrops every 5 points (score), how to get a flower when you click on the screen, and how to make a sprite say "excuse me" and "I like it up here".

Scratch Project 2

In class we block coded with a spaceship, ball, and object. We made the spaceship shoot the object with the ball. If the ball touched the spaceship it stops all scripts (aka the whole game).
