I’ve always been a bit lazy when it comes to English class. It’s one of those subjects you have to take, so you just do it. I’d learn the grammar rules, memorize the vocabulary for tests, and then promptly forget everything as soon as the bell rang. I just didn't see the point. Why did I need to know the past participle of "sing" or how to use the subjunctive mood? I live in a world where everyone around me speaks my language, so I thought, what’s the big deal?

That all changed this summer, when I went to a summer camp. Turns out, the camp had a special program with volunteers from Germany, Poland, and even a couple from the US.

At first, it was really awkward. The volunteers were super friendly and tried to speak a few words in Ukrainian, but mostly they spoke English. I understood some things, especially when they spoke slowly, but I was too shy to say much back. I could nod and smile, but I couldn’t really have a conversation. The words just wouldn't come out.

One afternoon, there was a storytelling session around the campfire. Everyone had to tell some story. I tried to mentally translate what I wanted to say, but it felt impossible. My English vocabulary just wasn't big enough, and I was terrified of making mistakes.

Then, volunteer Alex, from Germany, noticed me looking a bit down. He came over and started talking to me, not about anything complicated, just asking about my favorite camp activities. He spoke slowly and encouraged me when I stumbled over words. He didn't laugh at my mistakes; he just helped me find the right words. It wasn't perfect, but I was communicating! It was like a little door had opened.

That day, I finally understood the real purpose of learning a language. It’s not about grades or grammar tests. It’s about building a bridge to other people and other cultures. It’s about being able to see the world not just as a tourist, but as a person who can genuinely connect with others. Now, when I’m in English class, I try to see beyond the textbook. I'm not just learning words; I'm learning how to communicate with the rest of the world. And that feels like a pretty big deal.

Pour moi, une langue étrangère n’est pas seulement un outil de communication. C’est une clé. Une clé qui ouvre les portes des études internationales, du travail à l’étranger, et même de l’amitié. Grâce au français, j’ai déjà pu lire des livres dans la langue originale, regarder des films sans sous-titres, et parler avec des étudiants francophones.

Bien sûr, ce n’est pas toujours facile. Parfois je fais des fautes, je cherche mes mots. Mais chaque erreur est une leçon, chaque mot appris est un pas en avant.

Mon rêve est de visiter la France, la Belgique ou le Canada – pas comme touriste, mais comme citoyen du monde, capable de comprendre et d’être compris.

Je crois que chaque langue apprise est une richesse. Et pour moi, le français est un premier pas vers de grandes opportunités.

At school, children usually study English, and some schools offer a second foreign language. It is also possible to learn a language independently using textbooks and online resources. Listening to songs and watching videos in foreign languages is useful. Languages help us navigate the internet better. People who know several languages have more job opportunities. There are more than six thousand languages in the world. Some languages are disappearing because few people use them. The hardest part of learning a language is doing it without practice, so communicating with native speakers is very helpful. Dictionaries and textbooks make the learning process easier. Online programs make it interesting and accessible. Each language has its own grammar and features. In different languages, you can find similar words, which makes them easier to remember. By learning a language, we learn to understand other people. Languages bring nations closer and promote friendship among them.

Knowledge of foreign languages makes a person modern and educated. It opens new horizons in study and work. A person who can speak several languages feels more confident in the world. Foreign languages help not only in communication but also in developing imagination and creativity. They make life more interesting and fulfilling. Thanks to languages, we can travel, study, and work abroad. Each new language opens up a new world for a person. Therefore, learning foreign languages is always useful and important.

For me, learning English is not only a school subject, but also a way to open new doors and a new future.

Now I want to tell about my experience with English.

At first, my journey was very difficult.

In my life, English was like a fear, because I understood almost nothing.

But when I was in the 3rd grade, I started going to English courses.

I was afraid, but step by step English became my friend.

Slowly I made progress and learned many new things.

I began to understand English much better and to feel confident.Starting from the 7th grade, I took part in Olympiads and different competitions.

My results were very good, and I even received certificates and prizes.

Now I have many foreign friends, and I speak with them every day in English.

This practice makes my English even stronger.

My school, which has been with me for 11 years, became close to me, just like English, because when we all first came to school, we felt fear and uncertainty — the same as I once felt with English.

I also watch many films in English, and they help me understand the language better.

Learning English is not always easy, but it is very useful for me.

It gives me experience, new opportunities, and participation in different projects.

Many famous designers studied at Central Saint Martins, for example John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Martin Margiela. They created their own fashion houses. I also dream about becoming a successful designer one day.

In the future I would like to work in Paris because I think it is the world capital of fashion. For this I also want to learn French. Paris gives many opportunities for young designers. This city has a rich history of haute couture (high fashion), and I admire the style and creativity of French designers.

In Paris I can also meet talented people from different countries and share ideas with them. To do this, I must know foreign languages. English is the most important because it is international.

For me, English is a important tool that I use every day. For example, I like watching movies in original, the emotions seem more alive and the voices match the characters. It is also pleasant to listen to foreign music, as it is very different from ours. It is interesting to study the culture and mentality of other countries by watching different forums, interviews, podcasts and videos.

At the same time language is more than a tool. It is a bridge between people. Knowing English opens up the opportunity to play computer games with foreigners, make new friends. If you know at least one foreign language, you have the opportunity to travel the world. You can also find a well-paid job you like and enter the university of your dreams.

Some people say that learning grammar or vocabulary is difficult, but I think the freedom it gives is worth all the effort. In conclusion, I believe that every new word and phrase is a small step to new experiences. As one person said: “With languages, you are at home anywhere.”

First, English is a global language and extremely handy for travel. You should agree it isn’t easy to always rely on a translator on your phone.

My name is Polina. I study at school №7 in the 10th grade. I started learning English in the 1st grade, when I was 7 years old. My first teacher was Lyubov Mikhailovna. I like learning English because it is very interesting and helps to develop our outlook.

I also enjoy listening to music, reading books, and watching different videos in English. It helps me understand the language better and learn new words. English is very useful, because it gives us more opportunities for communication, travel, and future work. It is the language of international friendship, science, and technology. English is one of my favourite subjects at school. Thanks to regular practice and hard work, I can now translate many words, take an active part in lessons, do my homework more easily, and feel more confident during tests and exams. However, for me English is not just a school subject – it is something special, almost magical, that can really change my life and open new opportunities.

A few years ago, I studied English only to get good marks and to understand the tasks in class. I knew it might be important in the future, but I didn’t realise how and where I could actually use it. Later, I discovered how useful it can be in real life. For example, last year while I was training at the gym, I noticed a man with a moustache and a fashionable cap speaking English on the phone. When I introduced myself, he told me that he was from the USA and was living in my town, Kostyantynivka. I was very excited to talk to a foreigner, and we even spent some time together. At that moment, I understood how amazing it feels to speak English with people from other countries.

There are also other reasons why I want to keep improving my English. One of them is reading. At first, I read only short fairy tales in English, but this summer I managed to read “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by the Irish writer Oscar Wilde. Reading it in the original language helped me feel the true meaning that the author wanted to share. Another reason is technology: when I work with computers, English allows me to solve problems easily and communicate with modern programs like ChatGPT and other AI tools.

To sum up, I believe that if you really want to learn or achieve something, you will definitely make progress and eventually become a master of your work. For me, English is not only a subject at school but also a big gift for my future.

In addition to English lessons at school, I am improving my knowledge on my own: I study the language using special applications, watch videos in English, and play games with English as the interface language. Thanks to videos and songs, I practice my pronunciation and learn to pronounce words correctly. Games also help me remember the correct spelling of words and the structure of sentences in an engaging way.

I sincerely hope that in the future I will be able to achieve my dream of speaking English fluently and feel confident in any country in the world.

English helps me in education. Many textbooks, articles, and online resources are in English, so I can learn more and stay updated. It also allows me to watch videos and read books in the original language.

English is important for my future career. Many jobs need international cooperation, and knowing English helps me work with colleagues abroad, attend conferences, and even find a job in another country.

Learning English also brings me joy. I enjoy listening to songs, watching films without translation, and understanding English-speaking cultures.

In conclusion, English is more than a school subject—it is a key to opportunities, knowledge, and personal growth.

Secondly, European languages are useful for education and career. Many universities in Europe offer high-quality programs, and knowing the language of the country makes studying much easier. In addition, employers often value candidates who can speak several languages, because it shows flexibility and strong communication skills.

Finally, learning a European language helps us to travel more freely. Visiting countries becomes more exciting when we can speak with local people, ask questions, and learn more about traditions.

In conclusion, European languages open the door to knowledge, work, and travel. That is why it is important to learn them.

English also opens the door to communication with people from all over the world. I can participate in international projects, meet peers and professionals, exchange experiences. This builds self-confidence and helps me understand other cultures.

I am convinced that in the future English will become even more necessary. The world is becoming increasingly globalized, professions are becoming international, companies are entering global markets. The ability to communicate in English opens up prospects for employment, studying abroad, and participating in important international initiatives.

For me, English is not only a language, but also the key to new opportunities. It makes me modern, mobile and ready for the challenges of the future. I believe that knowledge of English is a top opportunity for any profession and personal development.

So, English today is a tool for learning, development and career growth, and in the future it will become an even more powerful resource for those who want to move forward.

I am from Ukraine and I live in Dnipro.

Learning English is a step towards my dream. Why?

Because I really love to travel and I want to visit the capital of Great Britain — London.

I would like to see the huge River Thames and the world-famous Tower Bridge.

I also want to visit the popular tourist attractions: Big Ben and the London Eye, which is really huge.

Learning English gives me the opportunity to talk to locals, ask where I can go to see something interesting, or even buy food — for example, cocoa with cookies.

The English language gives me many opportunities, such as finding friends on the Internet, listening to music, and even reading the news.

It is very interesting and exciting!

        I believe that a foreign language is my important step towards success. English is a common tool that helps open many doors on the way to a dream life. Fluent English is like an open window to the world that allows you to broaden your horizons, communicate with many people, and study at educational institutions all over the world.

      An example and motivation for me in learning is my close friend, who has always developed independently, without any outside help or tutors. Thanks to his small steps, which led to a great victory, his discipline and persistence in studying, this person achieved success in many areas of life: he has passed his exams, lives in the USA and develops his own business there.

     His story is like a star that shows the right way for me. A person who knows what he wants can conquer any peaks, taking every opportunity, and language becomes a strong bridge that connects a dream with reality.

     Thus, we can conclude that learning languages gives you not only the understanding of other people and information, but also builds discipline, endurance and the ability to adapt to any circumstances if you really want it.

English is a widely spoken language in the world. It is used in apps, programs, entertainment, studying etc. It is a required language in many different jobs, and many tourists use it. But there is a question - why do we study it?

As І mentioned earlier, English is an international language. We cannot imagine our daily lives without English. Even many slang words that we use now come mostly from English.

It is also quite common that when we download an app, it may not have any translation to our native language. It is rather exhausting to search up entire English texts in Google translator. Many phones and laptops use English, especially when setting up your personal accounts. Sure, anyone can translate everything to one's native language, but sometimes those translations can be too literal and a bit incomprehensible.

The next reason to learn English is its wide usage in different jobs. It is used in education, tourism, entertainment, science etc. For example, most films and TV shows are in English. Many prestigious universities like Harvard, Oxford and Stanford use English in their studies. It is impossible to get your degree without the knowledge of the international language.

The last reason that I would like to mention is communication and tourism. When you travel abroad, you do not know the local language. So you can just use English while communicating with others and making friends live and online.

In conclusion, I can say that learning English is necessary not only for your studies and career, but also for your mind. It can make you feel more confident and it broadens your vocabulary.

Well, first of all, it's good for traveling to foreign countries as English is the most spoken language in the world so you will be able to communicate with the locals in one way or another.

Another reason are jobs, let's say that you want to get a good job in another country, but you cannot understand your fellow employees.

Finally, we have basic communication online, usually when you talk with someone on social media, games, etc., they will most of the time speak English, that is why it's best to learn it. For example, when I tried to play a game, I could not understand anyone because I had no clue how to speak English.

For another example, let's say that someone wants to work at a company, however a lot of the programs and apps are in English! So, it's best to know atleast basic English.

To sum up, I believe that English is very important whenever it comes to traveling, working and even communicating online!

My first real step toward learning a foreign language happened unexpectedly. A few years ago, I joined an internet forum dedicated to one of my hobbies. Most of the users were from other countries, and almost all the discussions were in English. At first, I could only read a few words here and there, but I really wanted to take part in the conversations. That wish pushed me to learn more. Soon I was able to ask simple questions, then write longer posts, and finally discuss things almost as freely as in my own language. It was the first time I felt how knowledge of another language can break down barriers and bring people together.

In today’s world, where countries and people are so connected, knowing another language is no longer just a “bonus skill.” It’s almost like a passport that allows you to travel further – not only to new places, but also into new opportunities. A foreign language can help you study abroad, build an international career, or simply make friends on the other side of the globe. For example, when I imagine studying at a university in another country, I don’t just think about lectures and textbooks. I picture conversations with classmates from all over the world, trying new food, hearing unfamiliar music, and learning how to live in a culture that isn’t my own. That kind of experience shapes not only your knowledge but also your personality. The same goes for a career. Today, many companies want people who can cross borders without leaving their desk – through communication. A second language makes you more confident and flexible, whether you’re discussing a project with colleagues abroad or just explaining something to a traveler in your own city. But for me, the most valuable part of learning a foreign language is personal. It’s the way it sharpens your memory and concentration, but also how it gives you small joys: reading a poem without translation, understanding a joke in a movie, or finally being able to sing along to a song and know what it means. At such moments you realize: language is not only about communication, it’s about discovering new sides of yourself.

That’s why I see learning a foreign language not just as a skill, but as a journey. It’s a bridge to knowledge, to people, and to personal growth. It makes the world bigger and closer at the same time. And most importantly, it shows that every step you take in learning opens a new door – sometimes to places you never expected.
