         <description><![CDATA[<div>Biography<br>Rating- 10/10-  It's an easy read and you won't want to put the book down. It's a very inspiring and touching book. <br><br>The biography is about a man named Louie who is a runner in the 1936 Berlin Olympics for the US national team. Louie's running career had to be put on hold as he enlists in the army air corps during World War two. Louie and his guys, including Phil get into an air battle, with their plane being shot down over the Pacific Ocean. Louie, Phil, and Mac were the only survivors of the crash. With the tough conditions Mac ends up dying out at sea. Louie and Phil survived forty days on a raft, only to be captured by the Japanese and sent to the Japanese POW camps.  <br><br>The guys and Louie were being sent from camp to camp. Louie and Phil were separated and sent to different camps. The conditions at these camps were horrible and many men died. A guard named, "The Bird" was ruthless, and single-out Louie, beating him over one- hundred times. "The Bird" he feels he can have power if he defeats the spirit of an Olympic athlete. "The Bird" transfers to another camp and brings Louie with him. At the new camp Louie hauls coal and breaks his leg. The Bird made him clean up sty with his hands, which humiliated Louie. <br><br>After two years the Japanese announce that the war is over. Louie returns home and was reunited with his family. He than meets a girl named, Cynthia, and marries her. His war and prison experiences make him suffer from PTSD, which causes Louie to start drinking. His wife, Cynthia brings him to church were Louie finds God and says that God was watching over him. <br><br><br></div>]]></description>
