Mary Warren also seemed to enjoy being treated as an adult. She enjoys the feeling of entitlement. That is her motive behind accusing others of witchcraft. A quote that shows this is, "I only hope you'll not be so sarcastical no more. Four judges and the King's deputy sat to dinner with us...I–I would have you speak civilly to me from this out" (Act 2).

Mary Warren is portrayed as a naive and fearful character. The reason that Mary Warren only watched the girls dance in the forest, rather than actually participating, is that she was most likely too scared to participate. Also, the motive behind Mary claiming that John Proctor made her sign the book of the devil is purely the fear of being hanged. A quote that shows how Mary is fearful is, "Witchery is a hangin' error...We must tell the truth Abby! You'll only be whipped for dancing".

The motive behind Mary Warren giving the poppet to Elizabeth Proctor is goodwill rooted from Mary's innocence. Mary intended no harm from the poppet, and merely gave it to Elizabeth as a gift. A quote that demonstrates Mary's innocence is, "'Mary Warren, a needle have been found inside this poppet.' Why, I meant no harm by it, sir". (Act 2)

She has a great appreciation for the respect that comes along with being treated like an adult. Mary Warren definitely prefers being treated maturely, over being treated as a child.
