Not every child is an expert when it comes to the use of new media but they are still confronted with it and technology functions as a foundation which underlies and is integrated to everything we do. As educators we have to know what is going on in this online life as the children are a part of the digital generation.

Who are our students? 
They are not the ones the system was designed for because of the technology: "you look at technology as a tool we look at it as a foundation it underlies and is integrated to everything we do" "We grow up interacting with computers and cell-phones, that’s how we learn"

As a future teacher I have to deal with new technologies in order to help students to get the digital skills they need to fully participate in society. It's also important to be aware of differences when it comes to the digital literacy skills of the children. Families and schools definitely make a different and have an impact on that.
