What adaptations did you make to cope with your new lifestyle under lockdown order?

At the beginning of Covid I attempted to just go about my life as I used to, but I couldn’t. I had to change my everyday activities to be more entertaining because I wasn’t able to hangout with my friends or go shopping. I relied on TikTok to give me new entertaining ideas to keep me occupied. I tried many new crafts and changed my daily routine. I would normally sleep in till 11 to get half the day out of the way. Then, I would workout outside and then eat breakfast and maybe paint something. I kept starting new projects to keep me busy so that I didn't have to face the real world of Covid. I coped by keeping myself preocccupied.

Discuss something that started as a challenge during the pandemic, but is now an advantage. How did you find the answers to your challenges?

The pandemic brought about many new challenges. There are two that I can easily identify that are now advantages. The first that I can think of is curbside pick up and drive thrus. Before Covid, my family loved going into restaurants and sitting down and eating. It was a hard adjustment for me but now curbside is very convenient and drive thrus are faster than ever. The second thing that I can think of was work from home. My family didn’t really have a home office until that start of Covid. Now, it is an advantage because we finally got a home computer with a big monitor that we can use. This is very helpful for school because I can split all the tabs I need between the computers and everything runs much faster. Even through the challenges of Covid many advantages have emerged.

How do you persevere when confronted with unfamiliar places or situations when they are overwhelming?

When I am in a place I'm not familiar with I like to focus on something that is
somewhat like something that I already know. This helps me to calm down and not
get so overwhelmed. Focusing on one object allows me to center my thoughts and
figure out what I need to do in that situation. Sometimes I focus on the floor and
seeing people walking because it reminds me of school hallways. Another thing I
will center my thoughts on is either the touch or smell on something. Using the
method of 5-4-3-2-1 I am able to calm down. I think that with Christopher he needs
extra time to process overwhelming situations so that he finds himself him,
opposed to people such as myself

Based on conversations that you have heard, what are your family members (both close and extended) saying about COVID-19 and the pandemic? What are your thoughts about COVID-19 and the pandemic? How have these conversations evolved over time?

At the beginning of the pandemic my family was very scared of covid because
breathing problems run in our family. So, my dad was super strict on not allowing
me to see people and wanted us to stay home. My parents watched the news
every night and would be super cautious about everything. After about 2 months, I
was finally allowed to see people and go out. My parents became a lot more laid
back about everything. So laid back that they went to a rodeo and came back with
covid. (yay love that for us). I remember being so upset at them because they
were once again the reason for my quarantine. Almost a year ago, my family was
scared of the coronavirus, but now we have lived through having it. My family is
lucky that our symptoms of Covid-19 were not life threatening. But, I still
understand that it is important to do our part and stop the spread.

When COVID-19 really hit the United States back in February & March of 2020, what were your initial reactions about the virus and the stay-at-home orders across the country, and were those different than the reactions of those around you?

When the first stay at home order was issued I had many mixed emotions about it. I personally just thought it was like the flu but my parents were really concerned. My dad was really strict on my ability to hangout with people and go out. My first reaction to my parents saying I couldn't hangout with people was anger. I am a really social person so when I wasn't able to do the one thing that I love to do was really upsetting. After some time I understood why my family was so concerned but I still was really sad about the situation.

When this is all over, what will have changed in your life? How will you appreciate “normal”? Discuss what you are looking forward to the most.

I truly don't think that anything will go back to normal. Certain things will go back to the way they once were, but some things are going to remain as they are now and that's for the better. Something that has changed for me is how often I eat out. I personally used to eat out a lot with my family but in quarantine we have learned to make new dishes and eat healthier. This also inspired me to workout more often and I think that change is for the better. Another change is how close people stand next to each other in lines. First of all why did people stand so close to each other in the first place, so I think social distancing is really helpful. In the end I am most looking forward to seeing what adaptations stay in the everyday world because of covid.

During quarantine I was able to convince my parents to let me get a dog. This was a very large learning experience for me and my family. Since we have never raised a dog in a global pandemic before we learned many new things about my dog, Luna. Since we got Luna during the pandemic I wasn't really able to take her anywhere to get her socialized. So, she is a very shy dog. She really enjoys when I am home and able to stay with her. Since I wasn't able to leave, I spent a lot of time with her and now it is hard for her when I am gone for a long period of time. My family never really thought that us spending too much time with her was going to be a problem, but we have since learned that it is. This was still overall a good learning experience for us.

As for many people I feel like I became a new person through quarantine. I created new habits that allowed me to become a more healthy and self sufficient person. I personally followed trends on tik tok that kept me preoccupied. One of these trends was the 'Chloe Ting WOrkout Challenge,' I feel like this is what encouraged me to workout more frequently. I found my strength by feeling good about myself. When I was being super healthy I felt like I could do anything. Adapting to a new lifestyle of staying home really improved my health, I was able to take the time to work on myself.
