In 1844 she married John Tubman. This changed her last name from Ross to Tubman. The marriage ended up failing, but when she learned that his brothers were going to be sold she planned an escape.

They had all escaped but the two brothers went back and Harriet kept going. She traveled north and eventually made it to Pennsylvania and worked as a house keeper but she wasn't satisfied living by her self and wanted justice for the rest of her family

The fugitive slave act was introduced and this made the underground rail road a very hard and risky thing to do. This also made her travel more north where Canada was. She also now had to carry a gun with her for her own safety. She had to drug babies and young children so they wouldn't heard or caught.

For ten years she began her own under ground railroad and helped 300 enslaved people, however those numbers might not be factually true and exaggerated. she met other abolitionists like Fredrick Douglass, Thomas Garrett, and Martha Coffin. she helped lots of people. She was able to get her parents out of slavery and other people how to escape.
