Stakeholder Engagement Map (thinking tool)

My preference would be “a different process with a large group” on Kaners examples. I don’t like the stakeholder get together at the end as I feel they don’t have enough input, having them involved in the beginning gets more input from them in the process. I think especially in this situation holding say a “professional conference” to involve stakeholders then taking the ideas back to a smaller group to do the core thinking and develop the ideas would be best. But just my thoughts!

That being said I did email Jean to ask if she would like us to follow Kaners maps exactly, OR could we potentially draw one up that works for us? Say for example we had core groups at the very beginning to clarify goals and scope of the process, then a large group event such as a professional conference to receive input from all stakeholders, then have somewhat of an accordion process to develop and refine the ideas, then back to a large group event for roll out of the ideas? Or something along those lines.

Steph

From Kaner, I'm leading toward a combination of the large group process with an accordion process - large group to get everyone together, gather ideas, idea of where everyone stands, and then have smaller group meetings between groups of stakeholders, and eventually bring it back to a large group. This is really similar to the process followed by the Wells et al. (2013) article.

I agree with both of you, I’m thinking we use a combination of the “different process with a large group” and “accordion process”. This is just a thought off the top of my head… open to suggestions. I'm apparently a fan of professional conferences.

1. Health authorities (executive authority) set up as a steering group or board of directors at the beginning of the strategy who ultimately sets the goals/outcomes (p. 55-72 of Kaner Slides).

2. Large group process (Professional Conference) is used first to gather ideas, etc. and then,

3. The subject matter experts (SMEs)/ Stakeholders get together in smaller groups to complete their expert analysis [Accordion]

4. Next stage would be another large group (Professional Conference) process to gather SME/Stakeholder analysis/findings and to highlight findings/limitations

5. Smaller SME/Stakeholder group process repeated to reduce limitations etc. and then, [Accordion]

6. Another large group (professional conference) to solidify hospital emergency plan

7. Health Authorities would then review plan and sign off on program

8. A large group process (all staff meeting) would be conducted to ensure staff are properly trained/aware of plan

9. A large group process (community “town hall”) is completed to inform public

10. Large Group (Professional Conference) conducted on annual basis to ensure information is up to date

Mission Goal: Improve Vancouver hospital preparedness

Overall Goals:

§ Ensure health care services are maintained during a significant earthquake

§ Inform public on hospital emergency plan

§ Develop stakeholder engagement plan?
