Miss Megan and Miss Beki have maternity leaves approaching this fall and winter (congratulations and so happy for your families!) and new hires will be in place to support their schools while they are on leave.

Miss Lexie wrote and secured a grant to create a nursing-friendly space at Bella Terra, which is so beautiful, congratulations! As part of this work, Lexie and Emily Paramarta created a lovely mural. The space is peaceful and lovely.

Miss Aly at Bella Terra is taking classes on Conscious Discipline and Circle of Security. We look forward to her sharing-out resources with all of us, amazing!

Miss Tessa has begun her Masters Degree in Early Childhood online, and we are very excited for her.

In Practical Life the children are busy pouring, tonging, twisting and manipulating a variety of materials; enjoying snack with a friend. They are working on care of self and care of the environment by dusting shelves and cleaning up after snack and lunch.

In Math a variety of counting activities are being put to good use. 1-10 quantity and symbol work (numeral recognition), teens, tens and the hundreds board have all been introduced.

In Sensorial the pink tower, broad stair, red rods and cylinder work are favorites for building and comparing. We began our study of the five senses last week beginning with the sense of touch, and will continue with sight, hearing, smell and taste using the sensorial materials to isolate each sense over the coming weeks.

In Geography we have introduced land, air and water as elements of the Earth and have added the land and water globe to this area of the classroom. The continent globes will be introduced, beginning our study of the seven continents and the world map.

In Language, the children are working visual matching activities, classifying objects and pictures, sorting objects, discussing opposites, labeling picture cards and the environment. These activities along with patterning, association cards and sequence cards are some of the pre-reading activities. Themes of Fall support this important work!

In handwriting, children are practicing pencil control with the metal inset work. There are many activities for tracing lines and shapes that are important to learn in order to form letters. Letter and word tracing are also popular.

Please remember when printing your child’s name, always begin at the top. Capitalize only the initial letter and use lower case for the following letters (Mary, not MARY) writing in capital letters is a hard habit to change.
