this is an obvious requirement for any volunteering activity. Many volunteers are trusted to be allowed into people’s homes. Also, if you have organised a fundraising event you would be responsible for making sure that all the money raised is collected and passed to the relevant charity.

Good communication skills will be extremely important for anyone who is thinking about volunteering in any situation. There are many reasons for this. If working with children or the old, or people with special needs, the way you communicate with them is very important, and will need to be changed (for improvement) in order to suit the particular situation. Some of the time spent volunteering, especially with old people, may simply involve sitting listening to them talk. Many old people love to think about their youth, and young people may be surprised to hear about the lives they have led and the things they have done. This can be a two-way process where both people benefit and gain something from the experience. If collecting for (organisations that help needy people), volunteers need to be polite and friendly at all times when communicating with members of the public, otherwise they will just walk away and you'll be left with an empty tin! Teamwork Most volunteering activities will involve teamwork. Teamwork is very important in most situations, but especially where people are giving up their free time without being paid. All members depend on one another and everyone needs to add/give and pull their weight to share the workload. Often, volunteers need to encourage and support each other or they will soon become discouraged and depressed, and will give up on the volunteering.

Leadership skills are required by many companies, particularly the uniformed public services. Volunteering is a really good way to acquire some leadership skills. Good leaders usually have a number of qualities, and these are often the same qualities that can be found in people who volunteer successfully:

Charisma

embracing responsibility

Altruism

Enthusiasm

Assertiveness

Consistency

Sense of humour

experience

many volunteering activities require some form of arranging. When planning and ordering your volunteering activity, you may need to apply and go through a specific process. This will mean you will need to be fairly planned. When you start to carry out volunteering work, you may be working to a rota, along with other helpers. You will definitely need to be organised so that you turn up for volunteering at the agreed time. If you do not turn up, you could be letting down not only the rest of your team, but if working with capable of being hurt people, they could also be seriously affected.
