"Broken Promises, Unspoken Truths" Poems

These two pieces of poetry is what really got me engaged into writing. The feeling of being able to express yourself, life, and problems into a short poem but long enough for others to feel the emotions you put out there and get an understanding of what specific topic you talk about. This piece was done in the beginning of the school year but really stuck with me throughout the rest of the school year. I really wish I got to do more of these throughout this year. Knowing it was a writing assignment but nothing specific was mandatory and I was able to make it my own way was what really eagered me. Rereading my poems now, I really wish I would have advanced the use of words with bigger ones that I have learned. That's okay though, it lets me know now that writing has played a big role in my life as a student by helping me improve as a writer when it comes to assignments like these.

Star reading report

My star reading report is evidence of how I grew as a student. Looking back at the years I finally see how much I've improved as a student and now I won't take advantage of my time in class anymore. Seeing my growth has motivated me to continue progressing with my writing. Though I still dislike reading I know that it is what has helped me expand my vocabulary. Reading isn't my strongest suit, I didn't like it in the past and still dislike it now, but now that I am given the chance to individually pick a book that interest me and know that I will determine to finish it, reading hasn't been so bad. My main type of books are poems, yes they aren't full pages but the way the poets use their words of choice and create a connection to where I can mirror myself into their poems are what gives me the thrill to read them. Not only do I read poems but I also enjoy reading autobiographies. Learning about the life of someone else's catches my attention often. Reading how their life was, what happened to them, their background, their traumas whether they had some, the community around them that they lived in, and the relation I could connect with my life. Both of these genres of literature are what helped me progress my reading and my star reading report throughout this year of English.

This writing assignment is what really helped me in my future writing essays. This analysis poster helped me identify what I need to look in when reading a book. Being able to point out the topics, themes and use windows/mirrors/or doors, is what really help me find my ways to enjoy reading.

Justification for my grade

Throughout this year of English, I've seen a huge improvement in my writing, typing this piece has made me see how much I've grown as an individual and student. The words of choice that had been put into this piece, the emotions put into it, and the connection to the book that made me reminisce about my past experiences is what has made me realize why I now enjoy writing. I will admit this writing this justification was really hard, I didn't know how to start it, how to explain why I deserve the grade I chose, or how to explain what obstacle I had to go through. What I will say is that throughout this year and seeing how in the beginning I slacked off a bit because we were writing a lot to seeing how now I couldn't wait to start writing about a topic that I was passionate about. This writing prompt shows how much I have grown in this school year in my English class.
