Eddie is an old man who worked in the military when he was younger and now works at Ruby pire, an amusement park. His father used to work at the same place making Eddie not to proud to be there too. On one normal day in the afternoon, a ride suddenly brakes with people hanging from it. Eddie and his coworkers act together to get them down safely, but at the same time the 1 coworker releases the track Eddie realizes that something must have been rubbing against it to wear it down. The cart falls and seems to be heading for a little girl. Eddie acts fast and tries to push the little girl out of the way, but gets squished under the cart instead, ending his life. A few months prior to the accident, a new driver took his key and kept it loosely in his jacket pocket he kept around his waist and went on roller coasters. His key ends up falling on a ride and getting stuck between the tracks, rubbing against it and cutting it slowly. This is an important scene because it caused a butterfly affect: The guy's key getting stuck on the track caused it to slowly rip apart over time until one day it finally snapped making a cart almost fall on a little girl but Eddie tried pushing her out of its way, getting killed in the end.

The blue man was borrowing a friend's car and while driving a young Eddie runs in the middle of the road after his baseball. The blue man swerves out of the way to miss him then almost ends up hitting another car. He eventually crashes in an alley way where he dies from a heart attack. This scene is important because it marks the beginning of the blue man's death and his and Eddie's first and last interaction with him.

This scene is during Eddie's 17th birthday. His older brother, Joe, tells their mom about Eddie meeting the girl that he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Eddie gets defensive about and fights with his brother. This scene is important because in the first chapter of the book Eddie thinks about a girl that was special to him and now we're learning that they first met when he was 17. Which also means he's been inlove with the same girl for 50+ years. How sweet is that 🥰

This scene is important/Interesting because since Eddie was young he's been going to Ruby Pier to play games and eat candy. In his older years he's back at Ruby Pier and now serves the candy and makes sure the machines work properly. In the first heaven Eddie goes to, he makes a connection about the light pink sky reminding him of cotton candy, which can be linked to Ruby Pier. This shows that this place is deeply rooted in Eddie's mind and has effected him from his childish years.

Previous to this scene, Eddie felt like he had to join the war because other men were joining. He was practicing his shooting at the Arcade on the pier when his father's friend/coworker(?) appeared and asked if he was practicing to kill. Eddie gets irritated and tries ignoring Mickey until Mickey squeezes Eddie's shoulder. He gives Eddie advice to shoot without thinking because "it's the thinking that gets you killed". This part of the scene is important because it shows that people are worried about Eddie but won't stop him from joining the war. Mickey knows that if Eddie were to hesitate for a second, it could risk Eddie's life in combat.

Eddie meets his second person which turns out to be his captain from war. They talk about Eddie's and the others lives outside the war. Captain asks Eddie if he went back to the pier like he said he would. Eddie says he's never left but he tried too. He then brings up his leg. Captain stares at Eddie then asks if he still juggles. This is foreshadowing to later in the "second person" chapter. It turns out the Captain was the one to injure Eddie's leg. The captain also asks if Eddie still juggles because that was how they attacked their captors during the war.

Eddie and his comrades were able to escape their captors during the war but had lost a friend: Robozzo. One of the captors had shot him in the head. Eddie and everyone else were running away from the burning buildings but in the corner of Eddie's eye he notices a figure behind the buring building. He tries his hardest to rescue them but his comrade tells him Noone is there and tries to save him by stopping him. Eddie loses it and starts to let his emotions run loose. This is sad because he wasn't able to properly process his emotions from getting held captive, being forced into labor, his friend dying, and killing his captors by hand.

Eddie learns that the Captain was the one to shoot him in the leg. The Captain explains why he did it: he was saving his life because if he didn't shoot him, Eddie would've lost his life in the fire. The Captain says Eddie has gained something from that experience and so did he. He kept his promise to never leave someone behind. Captain asked Eddie for forgiveness for shooting him in the leg. Eddie takes his hand and forgives him. This is important because Captain has been waiting for Eddie to forgive him so he could move on in his heaven.

Emotional/Surprising Scene

Eddie appears in his 3rd person's heaven which is located near snowy mountains and an old styled Diner. He saw an elderly couple eating pie together and took no notice of him. He saw other customers inside by the counter and in the booths. Each of them seemed to be from different decades; 1930s and 1960s. It looked so alive in the Diner with the food looking realistic and delicious. When Eddie looked at the last booth he froze then banged on the windows screaming "No". It turned out the person he saw was his father. This is an emotional scene because when Eddie tried to say dad but the words wouldn't come out was because it's "a word he hadn't spoken in decades" This can lead us to believe his father had died and he either missed him, his father died young, or they hadn't spoken to each other for years before he passed. It's a Surprising scene because it wasn't expected that Eddie would see his father in another person's Heaven. How his father reacted to Eddie banging on the glass also reflects how he acted in Eddie's life.

Eddie finally meets his 3rd person which turns out to be a rich looking old lady. He's never met this woman before in his life which leaves him confused to how they can be connected. The woman goes on to talk about her love life then brings up how he built "the most wonderful place" which included rides, boat trips, tiny railways, a ferris wheel, a carousel, and other attractions. She noticed Eddie wasn't understanding her and kept asking him questions about where he worked; Ruby Pier. The old woman then formally introduced herself and bowed while saying her name was Ruby. The connection is that Emile (Ruby's husband) was so inlove with Ruby he built her an amusement park and named it after her. It's also the same place where Eddie's dad got a job and made his living and where Eddie spent his childhood, practicing shooting for the army, and worked once he left the army.

Ruby shows Eddie a flashback to earth when Mickey was drunk crying to Eddie's mother. Eddie's mom went into her room to change to go out but Mickey barges in when shes partially undressed. His mother goes to cover herself but Mickey tries to force himself onto her. Eddie's father walks in on this happening and has a hammer in his hand. He tries swinging at Mickey but he dodged and knocked Eddie's father down while getting away. Eddie's father gets up and starts screaming at his wife. This is disgusting because Eddie's mother was getting sexually assaulted by who she thought was a close trusted friend. The detail that's put to describe what was happening made me feel sick and really sorry for her to have to be put through that. This is also sad because Eddie's mom didn't ask or do anything to Mickey for him to jump on her like that. And for Eddie's father to scream at her instead of comforting her.

Ruby showed Eddie another flashback. This time it was when Eddie's father was sent to the hospital after getting sick with Pneumonia. His father gets out of bed during the night and walks over to the window of his hospital room. He tries opening the window and hangs half of his body out the window while he calls the names of his family, including Eddie who he has refused to talk to since the night Eddie stopped his father from hitting him. This scene is sad and emotional because in Eddie's father's last moments alive he finally called out to his son who he refused to talk to or acknowledge.

Eddie wants to call his wife in excitement but Noel tells him it's a bad idea. Eddie doesn't listen and Calls her anyways but Noel was right and she tells him to come home. Eddie tells her to stop telling him what to do but his wife scolds him saying they have a baby on the way and he needs to fix this habit of gambling. Eddie hangs up in anger and goes to spend the rest of the money he won. I'm disappointed in Eddie for not listening to his wife that they shouldn't gamble their money away when they have a possible baby coming. It was also upsetting that Eddie hung up on his wife and went to gamble the rest of his money.
