Ole Molly Bright Activity by Joseph Sullivan

Instead of guessing a story about the Moon, I want you all to come up with a story about one of Thomas Jefferson's slaves. For example, you could write about their personalities, interests, and maybe even a favorite hobby. Pick the name of someone and click the plus button underneath. For the subject, give a title to your story. Then, write approximately 4-5 sentences in the text box. Good Luck!

Minerva was born on October 23, 1832. Minerva was a hard worker, while also being well-liked on the field by her associates. Minerva was always positive and well kept with herself despite being a slave. She also had a daughter that was 7 years old, her daughter was named Faith. Her daughter did not work in the field, but her daughter did watch as her mother worked. It pained Minerva to know that her daughter watched as she worked such a horrible job and had no choice. Knowing that Faith knew such things gave Minerva all the motivation she needed to want to be free.

Joseph Fossett was born on July 29, 1821. When he was 9 months years old his mother escaped with him and his father, they lived in the woods. They were farmers, they built a home, gardens, and others. They had enough food for surviving decades. His dad hunted while his mom planted plants. Joseph planted with his mom and needed improvement hunting with his father. One day when Joseph turned 6 years old a group of white men found their home, one of the slaves told on them and said where they were staying. Joseph's mom and dad were taken away, while he was taken to the field. Joseph never saw his parents again, at 6 years old stuck, as a slave, with token parents. Another 6 years went by Joseph is 12. Working in a field Joseph wanted to be free, wanted to go home. He set up a plan to escape the field and head home.

She was a hard working slave and made such that she never caused trouble. One day while cleaning the floor she spilled the water and it got on the carpet. A slave saw it and went to tell the master. As Elizabeth was trying to clean up the mess, she was hit in the back of her head. When she turned around she saw the master, she tried to explain what happened but he didn't care. She was taken to the basement and was beaten so badly that she forgot her own name. After that Elizabeth was injured badly and she could barely work. When she was healed she continued to work as a house slave till she grew old.

Life as a powerful field worker

Field working may be harder than you think we have to pick cotton we can only speak when told. But the way we speak to each other is different we start humming songs as a code. Also we would braid rice in each other's hair to know who is going to escape that day or sometime later on. But my life as a field worker was hard I would get whipped for making mistakes. And if you disobey one of the masters you would be put in the chamber of fire and many people had to deal with that and I did not want to be next. But it was hard for other slaves to lose their children because they would be sold at auctions. Also they would be hard very badly because if they disagree with the master they will either be killed or whipped. But when you would try to escape they would find you and put a manacle around your neck and if you make any sudden movement if would crack your neck.
