Greeting Customs

When you meet someone here, we usually greet each other warmly with a single kiss on the right cheek. It might seem extremely forward to foreigners from more reserved cultures, but it's just our standard way of saying hello to friends and new acquaintances!

Traffic and Honking

You will quickly notice that drivers in the city use their car horns constantly. They don't just honk aggressively when they are angry; they often tap the horn lightly to signal that they are passing by, to catch a pedestrian's attention, or to see if you need a taxi.

The Main Meal

We eat very heavily during the middle of the day. Lunch is our main meal and is usually served quite late, usually starting around 1:30 PM or 2:00 PM.

Post 1: Eating Dinner Very Late

When you visit Peru, get ready to change your meal schedule! We often have lunch at 2:30 PM, and it is completely normal to eat a heavy dinner at 9:30 or 10:00 PM. Many restaurants are incredibly busy late at night, so make sure to plan your hunger carefully!

Post 2: Greeting with Warmth

Don't be shy when meeting Peruvians. We warmly embrace friends and family, and it is customary to greet with a single kiss on the right cheek, even if you just met. It might feel a bit unexpected at first, but it clearly shows our hospitality and friendliness.

Post 3: Chaotic and Vibrant Markets

Our traditional local markets, like San Pedro in Cusco or Surquillo in Lima, are extremely loud and chaotic! Everyone shouts prices at once, but it is a fantastic experience. Just remember to bargain politely to get the best deals on fresh fruits and potatoes.

Some drivers drive quite aggressively, so please walk across the street carefully.

2.- In local markets, people are very friendly. If you ask for a discount, mechants will usually answer politely and help you find exactly what you need.

3.- We Peruvians love to celebrate.
