In this section of the book, many conflicts raised between friends, along with the law. One of the main conflicts was between Haley and the school. Haley actively participated in a protest which was anti-school. This protest lead to bad blood between Starr and Haley. More conflicts were between Carlos and the police, and Devante and his gang.

1. Do you think it was a good idea for Starr to stand up to Hailey by fighting, or should she have solved the problems in a better way?

2. Before going off on Iesha, should Seven have been more open-minded to what she has been going through herself? What problems does this now cause?

3. What do you think was going through Sevens mind on the way to Iesha’s and the whole time he was there? What made him turn around shortly after leaving and then turning around again?

4. What do you think would have happened if they stayed on Magnolia Street, as the cops were threatening everybody that stayed to protest?

5. How important would you say Starr speaking out through the bull horn, in front of so many people and ending up on the news impacted this story?

This story ended with much support from the neighborhood, although destruction of many buildings and shops. Starr stood up in front of everyone to englighten those that didn’t know what exactly happened, and this led to more support from some, but at the same time put her family more in danger of the cops.

Kaitlyn
