After WW1, many factories have been close by no needs of weapons, so most of people that usually work in the factories or people who came back from the front line, get unemployment. People have nothing to do, because there are no needs of too much workers in the factories.

The workers was expecting with the higher wages, they could buy more food but the higher living cost. So they wanted more food. The peace was only for the people with money or power. The workers can't have peace without a higher wage and a better living conditions.

Explain how employers and government reacted to the strike.

The Winnipeg General Strike was not good for employers because it meant that at the time they would have no one working for them. They were even more concerned that if the strike had an effect and unions persuaded the government to provide better workers' rights, it would mean that employers would have to pay their workers more. The government had to decide whether they wanted to please the workers and unions or the employers. They decided to appeal to the employers and try to get the strikes to stop so that work could begin once more and slowly start rebuilding the economy. They also took the side of the Citizens Committee of 1000 and tried to end the strikes to prevent the rise of Bolshevism. The government created laws that allowed immigrant strikers to be easily deported and deployed the mounted police against protesters in the streets.

Well, we see it happen all the time today in our society when workers protest - they end up feeling worse about their situation when it's all said and done. Hope is what drives people to do things. Nothing works without hope. When people decide that the government and their employers aren't being fair, that they need a change, they have hope. They believe that by striking, something will be done to help them. When force and threats are used to get them back to work without solving any of their problems, they're losing faith in their government and the people who are supposed to be looking out for them. Not only are many probably going to be fired, the ones that aren't are going to be resentful and angry, and I think that's probably going to play into what starts the Great Depression - people are upset and they aren't being heard.
