         <description><![CDATA[<p>I liked Principle 3: How do students solve problems? There is so much to be learned from receiving feedback, even though most people shy away from it. Instead of looking at feedback as a chance to grow and improve, most individuals think shots are being fired to call out their flaws. I like the steps of this process that allow students to manage the affect feeback has on them, make a judgement call, and take action. This principle is interesting because it provides a comprehensive understanding of the complex, and individualized, nature of learning. It emphasizes the importance of active engagement, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, personalization, real-world application, and motivation in the problem-solving process.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Principle 2</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>How <em>do</em> students learn and retain new information? I have always been fascinated by this question; as I have learned more about how students learn new things, it changes the way that I study. I have already taken several courses on cognitive development, and the principles there still apply to their use with technology and other relevant tools. One thing I found interesting in this section is that not all practice is the same. I've never thought of it that way, but I think it is very true. Before an exam, I might practice something for a few hours at a time and remember it well enough for the test. Then, however, I forget all about it. I think that more prolonged, spaced out practice is best for retaining knowledge. I also enjoyed learning again about cool ways to remember things, like songs and stories. In addition to this, I'm taking a Movement Exploration class where we just talked about movement as a way to remember something. I definitely did that in my younger years, learning hand signs to remember the words to a song or with math problems. I enjoyed perusing the article shared in the Principle 2 video. It had a lot of really good practical information on it, and was easy to navigate! I would highly recommend checking it out! </p><p> </p>]]></description>

         <title>Principle 5</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I was really intrigued by the learning principle 5. I think motivating students is a major challenge we face as future educators. It can sometimes feel like a very daunting task, but it can really make the biggest difference in the classroom. For me, in my own experience in school, I always had a desire to learn. Both of my parents were very involved in my schooling and from a young age pushed for me to have a desire to learn. Their influence in my life really made a difference in my motivation to learn. For me, it didn't take long to develop an intrinsic motivation when it came to learning. However, I know that for many students, this experience is the exception. I saw many of my peers not show enthusiasm for learning and I've also seen many students while I've been in practicums during my undergraduate. When I was younger, I remember I just didn't understand why my peers weren't motivated or excited, but with time, I have more understanding. This experience really is the major reason I found principle 5 the most interesting. </p><p><br/></p><p>When looking deeper at principle 5, there are a few things that I find the most interestings and important. First is the overall message of a growth mindset. I'm sure many of us have seen the research, but there is more learning and growth in the brain when a mistake is made in comparison to if it is not made. I love this idea as seeing mistakes as growing opportunities. I know that in my own life, when I've made mistakes, I was more comfortable when those around me didn't make me feel like it was this completely negative thing. That is something that I think is super important as teachers to be aware of - we should help students to feel safe and comfortable to make mistakes in our classroom. One way of doing this is modeling appropriate ways to think about and react to the mistakes you as the teacher make in the classroom. I truly believe that if students feel safe to make mistakes and practice a growth mindset they will be more motivated to engage in the learning fully. </p><p><br/></p><p>One other thing I found interesting about principle 5 is the idea of helping students feel more in control of their learning by having them set goals that focus on improvement rather than performance. I personally feel like this has been a shift in the education system recently. I know this is something I want to improve on, because growing up I did struggle with this idea. I feel like when we can focus on the effort and improvement students make, they will feel more motivated to engage in the learning. We take the pressure of reaching a certain level of achievement and instead allow students to learn and grow at their own rates. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Principle 6</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I found the 6th learning science principle the most interesting: common misconceptions about how students learn. I was especially shocked to find out that there is no credible evidence for “learning styles”. This is something that I have believed for my whole life, that I am a visual learner. If someone talks through how to do a process it is harder for me to understand rather than if they were to show me a picture. For example when reading instructions to assemble furniture I bought from the store, I zone out when reading long paragraphs about where to put in a screw, but I like when there is a picture instead. However, wouldn’t most people understand &nbsp;the location of a screw better if they were given a picture, rather than a paragraph? Just like the video said, geography is best understood if there is a map, and music best understood if there is an audio component, for all people regardless of their learning preference. It was an eye opener for me. People learn better when there are multiple approaches (audio and visual, pictures with text, etc.)</p>]]></description>

         <title>principle  5</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I was interested in principle 5.  what motivates students?  Building confidence while teaching and then watching the students learn and giving their opinions on what there learning or remembering. I think that students can learn and be motivated, belonging when socializing, teaching or helping each other. AS a native American, living here on the reservation, I was a substitute teacher and I see that students struggle in every grade. some in every subject which I think that only an 1/2 hour every day isn't enough especially if there are like 28 to 30 students. I live here  on the reservation, students don't really have electricity or running water. About maybe a mile or a half to catch the bus and some only living with grandma. I think that there needs to be more parent involvement which here on the reservation Is kind of difficult when only grandma is the main source of learning.  They still come to school everyday, sick or not.  But having a Chromebook to do their work and learn from that might improve there intelligence with strategies to where they don't even need to use paper and pencil. which I have seen and learned from them while helping with their work.  I thought offering an incentive for completing there work and the effort, accomplishment and achievements when completing their assignment might give them the motivation to help each other and find out what help they need.  As a substitute teacher I learned that students will ask for help with there work but improving themselves might be challenging. THanks for reading.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Principle 1</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Principle 1 stood out to me the most because I found it to relate to how I learn best. Using analygies or metaphors helps students relate to the topic. Principle 1 draws from old knowledge that students have previously and adds a bit of new knowledge. It connects the two. I liked this because it can be helpful to compare real-life experiences or past knowledge to deepen learning for others. Using real-life examples I know for me helps to learn material stick in my mind. I also enjoy how social this type of learning can be. It insists on other's insights into what helps the material stick for them. This principle allows for feedback as well. It can also help create mindful "how-to steps" which I found remarkable. I also liked how this principle could be used easily with technology. If the students were learning about science and you put on a video you would have them watch it while you explain to them what is going on. Talking them through the process and not leaving them to ponder what is happening. In my classroom I want to use the "I do, we do, you do" type of teaching, principle on is perfect for achieving that. Having prior knowledge helps us to add bits and pieces of new information and allows us to engage with our students.</p>]]></description>
