Empty slogans would be an example!

For me advocacy needs to be able to convince the logical end of a person's mind. You can try and tug at a person's heartstrings all you want but it won't matter if their a cold hearted you know what. But, being able to provide cold hard firsthand facts then even people who don't care about an issue emotionally will begin to start considering your point. I am in no way saying that emotion in advocacy is bad, I am saying too much is bad.

I think when advocacy becomes ineffective, why do it? If you're making a half hearted attempt, then why make one at all. In order to see if something is effective, it helps to see pictures or videos, of "advocates" going out and actually interacting or supporting the group someone says they are advocating for.

Some people might say they support an issue or group of people only because everyone else is and not be a true advocate. What I look for in models of advocacy are direct ways to help, how to get involved, and how involved the advocate is.

Advocacy is most effective when it presents a solution that has reason to happen. A group could not advocate to ban peanut butter worldwide just because! A issue needs to have a easily identified reason to be supported for or against. When looking at current forms of advocacy, ask yourself, "What do they set out to accomplish and WHY?". Then take time to consider if their method of fixing the issue is the appropriate way to fix it.

Ensure their reasoning has purpose.

Make sure everyone feels included.
Ineffective- If there is a problem with someone within your advocate group, don't talk about the problem with others around them-talk to the individual first, and let them know what the issue is, and if the problem still isn't working, then try to reach out to others for help with how to solve the problem

Advocacy becomes ineffective when organizations use misinformation to fuel their messages. It contributes to the larger problem of conformation bias within our country, which I feel continues to grow to some extent. Look out for things like REALLY believable statistics (most of the time, stats aren't EVER perfect).
