in response to the Uyghur genocides and "re education" the UN failed to provide effective solutions due to chine throwing the issue out and other countrys that support china not wanting to "throw them under the bus". in response to this USA took the situation into their own hands in June 2020. they passed the Uyghur human rights policy act through congress and it called for many sanctions. it had economic sanctions on individuals who were definitely involved in the persecution of Uyghurs. they also put sanctions on visas of Chinese officials such as the communist party senior officer of Xinjiang. this sanction on visas included many other chinese officials for their responsibility in it. there was a sanction on trade from china to for a period of time. this helped to almost force china into submission as they rely on the USA as much as any other country for them to buy Chinese exports and allow movement of Chinese officials into the country. this harmed china so much they had to reduce the scale of their "reeducation"
