With all of this, it helped her find her voice during her junior year of high school.

    This helps my answer because it gives background knowledge on why she refused to move her seat during the times where black people were ”not allowed” to talk back to white people.

  • Sat in the White People section of the bus
  • Got arrested for it at 15
  • The policeman was violent while dragging her off the bus
  • Sent her to a regular jail site and not juvenile detention 
  • Rosa Parks did the same thing 9 months later
  • They used Parks as the symbol of the movement because she was lighter and 42. And at this time Colvin was a pregnant teenager, which was not a good symbol for a movement.

There they had two police officers arrest her. She knew better then to fight them but she still went limp to make it more difficult for them to get her off the bus. The cops were very violent, kicking her, taking her hands and pulling her to get off of the seat, and dragging her backwards off the vehicle.

    This answers my question because it shows how Colvin was treated while she wasn’t doing anything violent or wrong. She was simply sitting and the people around her treated her wrongfully.

They had a speech for her and later on she was put into novels that talked about her courage.

She refused to keep explaining herself and that’s when her friend Margaret talked for him and said ‘She ain't got to do nothin' but stay black and die."

    Claudette Colvin should be taught for many reasons, but the main one would be because she was stuck in the shadow. If you ask most people who is Claudette Colvin. they would not have a response and that is a problem. Both Rosa Parks and Colvin  deserve recognition for their actions and their effect in stopping segregation, no matter how light, young, or if they are pregnant or not.
