I’m a climate refugee - moved from one place as the heat was affecting my health. But I had the choice…many don’t! Living in the states for 20 years and reflecting on my Geography degree and education in UK on the 90’s, much of what I learned is now reality!

So what do we teach our students now? This is important…but this is happening now so knowledge yes…but problem solving and approaches to learning are the most important elements!

Maybe this was missed in the internal guide audit. All subjects in MYP include climate change education as all unit plans must be linked to a global context one of which is globalization and sustainability and another is fairness and development. So all subjects will link to climate change at some point in any school year. Also in the MYP digital assessments one task in every subject is related to a global context so there are many examples of climate change in our examinations too which encourage discussions and evaluation of systems, perspectives and call to action.

I have only just caught up with the recording now. A fantastic insight into the multifaceted research. I was surprised to hear that the term "climate emergency" wasn't used during the research or presentation (that I recall) While I appreciate that this could be a triggering term to use, it is widely used in the media and by international organisations such as the WEF and UN. 40 countries have declared a climate emergency since 2020 and so it is something that students would encounter in further research and applying their learning to the real world.

Another approach that is used in schools and a variety of industries (in the UK) is Carbon Literacy. It is a really effective process that involves thinking about impacts from a personal and global perspective and could also be integrated in a variety of different ways

carbonliteracy.com

As an organisation is the aim for education to be about climate change or education for climate change? Or a comn=bination of both? That is, to inspire action either through personal behaviour change and/or pursuing a career that can have an impact. The career related programme could also have a significant role.. over 140 countries have set net zero targets which means a huge increase in the number of jobs that will ultimately (hopefully) have an impact on climate change
