There are many different themes in the story "I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou. Although the theme that stuck out to me was that you can get through anything if you have someone there to help you. For example, when Mrs. Flowers has Maya read books aloud to help her speak again. Also another example would be when Maya's mom might have asked Mrs. Flowers for help with Maya. Overall this theme can apply to the real world, but this is also what got Maya through being depressed.

In 'I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings" I can infer that the theme is 'Don't give up". Mrs. Flowers didn't give up on Marguerite. We Believe this because in the text it say's "There's one more thing, take this book of poems and memorize one for me. Next time you pay me a visit, I want you to recite." This is why we think the theme is "Don't give up", It shows that Mrs. Flowers was determined to help Maya and teach her how to speak again . That is why we believe that the theme is "Don't give up".

The theme in ''I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings'', is don't judge a book by its cover. For example, ''She (Mrs. Flowers) was our sides answer to the richest white women in town.'' This makes her seem rich and rich people don't care much for others. Also, the excerpt says, ''As I ate she began the first of what we later called ''my lessons in living.'' This explains how Mrs. Flowers cared for others, especially for Marguerite. The author uses theme by showing us how a rich person actually cares for others.

A theme the reader can infer from the excerpt "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" is 'You never know how much you can make a difference in someone else life'. In the story, Ms.
Flowers sought out Maya to help her with her struggles with speaking. Also, Ms. Flowers invited Maya to her home and introduced her to poetry with tea cookies. In conclusion Ms. Flowers made a positive impact on Maya's life.

In "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings", one theme that the reader can infer from the story is that you can overcome anything. For example, in the excerpt Maya was assaulted and as a result "she had become depressed and withdrawn and unable, or unwilling to speak." With the help of Mrs. Flowers and literature, she was able to come out of her shell and leave the past behind her. By Angelou's example, we learn that you can overcome anything, including your circumstances.

In "I Know Why the Cage Bird Sings" the theme of the poem is, you can recover from anything. For example, Angelou writes about Maya recovering by saying "yes ma'am, it was the least I could do."This was the first time she started talking. This explains to the readers that you can recover from everything like Maya recovered from a traumatizing event. Also the author states "It is a far better thing that I do, than I have ever done." This demonstrated how much she wanted to talk and she finally did. Maya Angelou shows how hard she tried to speak throughout the poem " I Know Why The caged Bird Sings . "

"I know why the Caged Bird Sings" has many different themes. The them of the story is to find happiness wherever you go. Our explanation for this is how Marguerite was trying to stay positive in the store and out of the store. Another is how she finds enjoyment in books and different wonders of life. That is our explanation for the theme.

In "I Know Why the Gage Bird Sings " The theme of the story is to be careful of the people and the places that you surround yourself with. Textual evidence, When she went to her moms house (place) she was sexualy assulted by her moms boyfriend ( people ) Textual evidence #2, When she met Mrs. Flowers she took her in she was in a good house ( Place ) and Mrs. Flowers thought her that it was okay to speak again. Mrs. Flowers impacted Maya's life in a positive way. In the last few paragraphs it talks about how Maya finally came out of her shell. Maya was a quiet person in the beginning and then in the end, Mrs. Flowers encouraged her and in the end she became a more outgoing person. To conclude in "In know why the caged bird sing" Maya with Mrs. Flowers help became a better person.

In " I know why the Caged Bird Sings", an example of a theme shown is not to judge a book by its cover. In this piece, someone may have thought that Maya was strange or something of that sort because of how she acted very quiet after she had a very bad experience with her mother's boyfriend. Mrs.Flowers does something different and gets to know Maya. This results in the healing and growth of Maya. We should try not to judge people before we get to know them because they may be going through something. By putting this lesson in the story, Maya makes people think about the way they may be guilty of judging others without knowing them and will also hopefully change their ways.

The theme in "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" is: You can make a difference in someones life no matter who you are. Marguerite and Mrs. Flowers made big changes in each others lives. Mrs. Flowers helped Marguerite improve her speech skills. Marguerite helped Mrs. Flowers carry her things and made Mrs. Flowers happier. Therefore we think that the theme is that anyone can make a difference in anybody's life no matter who they are.
