Main vegetation:

The vegetation in deserts is limited and very low to the ground. The leaves on the vegetation are filled with nutrients so that they are able to survive long periods without energy. Some examples of these plants include the Turpentine bush, prickly pears and the brittle brush. Other examples of vegetation include the barrel cactus, desert ironwood, saguaro cactus.

Climate characteristics: temp and rainfall

The desert temperature is between 20-25 degrees.

However hot desert temperature can be between 42-49 degrees.

There is very little rainfall in the deserts equating to roughly 15cm per year.

Main Vegetation:

Tundra environments are consistently barren due to their vast landmasses which undergo extremely harsh conditions. The ground is permanently frozen meaning trees are unable to grow although within summer, the soil’s top layer can thaw to such an extent that plants are able to grow and reproduce. Vegetation in the tundra consists of only 1,700 different species, most shrubs, mosses, lichens and grasses with the growing season only 50-60 days. .

Climate Characteristics: (temperature range and precipitation)

Tundra environments only really have the seasons of summer and winter, as spring and autumn are very short periods, with average annual temperatures at -56°C. The precipitation within tundra is similar to a desert as only 6-10 inches falls each year, with most of this snow.

The coniferous forest are found in Russia and Canada. The main vegetation has not much of plants and animals. There is a lot of coniferous trees (pine, white spruce, hemlock and Douglas fir.) and known as evergreens. Lichens, mosses, thin waxy needles are some of the plants. They hunt herbivores like snowshoe rabbits, red squirrels and voles. Red deer, elk, and moose can be found in regions of the coniferous forest where more deciduous trees grow. Many insect eating birds come to the coniferous forest to breed.

The climate characteristics of coniferous forest The winter temperature range is -54 to -1° C. Also the temperature range in the summer gets as low as -7° C and the high in summer can be 21° C.
