Hi Long

I hope you're doing well. I'm currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering at university. So far, I've learned many useful skills like teamwork, time management, and problem-solving. One great opportunity is being able to join clubs and workshops that help improve my practical knowledge. However, I sometimes find it challenging to balance between study and personal life. To deal with it, I try to manage my time better and ask for help when needed. What I like most about university is meeting new people and learning new things every day. I hope we can meet soon and share more stories!

Best,

Hoang

Inspection Report: Lathe Shaft

After inspecting the lathe shaft, the following measurements were recorded: length – 50.40 mm, diameter – 6.015 mm, and hole depth – 10.12 mm. Based on the design specifications, the acceptable ranges are:

Length: 49.75 mm to 50.25 mm

Diameter: 5.996 mm to 6.004 mm

Hole depth: 9.75 mm to 10.25 mm

The measured length and hole depth are within the acceptable tolerance range. However, the diameter exceeds the upper limit of 6.004 mm. As a result, the shaft does not meet the design specification for the diameter and must be rejected.

Engineering materials are broadly divided into two main types: metals and non-metals. Metals can be further classified into ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Ferrous metals contain iron, such as steel and cast iron, which are strong, durable, and widely used in construction and manufacturing. Non-ferrous metals, like copper, aluminum, and bronze, do not contain iron and are often resistant to corrosion, lightweight, and good conductors of electricity. On the other hand, non-metals include ceramics and plastics. Ceramics are hard, brittle materials with excellent resistance to heat and wear, often used in glass, tiles, and aerospace applications. Plastics, which are polymers, are divided into thermoplastics and thermosets. Thermoplastics can be melted and reshaped multiple times, while thermosets become permanently hard after molding. Polymers in general are lightweight, flexible, and corrosion-resistant, making them useful in packaging, automotive, and electrical industries. Another important group of engineering materials is composites, which combine two or more materials to achieve better properties. For example, fiberglass and carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers are strong, lightweight, and widely used in aircraft and sports equipment. In summary, engineering materials play a vital role in modern technology, and understanding their types, properties, and applications is essential for mechanical engineering and industrial development.

A few months ago, I had a frustrating experience with the photocopier at my office. It happened on a Monday morning when I was in a hurry to prepare materials for an important client meeting. As I tried to print around 50 pages, the machine suddenly stopped working and displayed a paper jam error. I opened all the compartments and checked, but I couldn’t find any paper stuck inside. After spending several minutes trying different things, I finally noticed a small, crumpled piece of paper lodged deep inside the back roller. I used a pen to carefully pull it out. Then, I restarted the machine, and thankfully, it started working again. I managed to print all the documents just in time for the meeting. Although I was stressed at first, I felt very satisfied afterward because I had fixed the problem myself without having to call the technician. The situation reminded me how important it is to stay patient and calm when dealing with technical problems. It also made me realize the value of understanding how office equipment works, even if it seems simple. That small success gave me more confidence for future challenges at work.

My ideal job in the future is to become a mechanical engineer working in the manufacturing or automotive industry. I have always been interested in how machines work and how they are designed, so I think this career would suit me well. As a mechanical engineer, my job would involve designing, testing, and improving mechanical systems and machines such as engines, tools, or production equipment. I would also analyze problems and find technical solutions to make machines more efficient and reliable. To do this job, I will need a university degree in mechanical engineering and strong skills in math, physics, and computer-aided design (CAD) software. Important qualities include creativity, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and good teamwork. In this job, I hope to receive a good salary, bonuses for successful projects, and benefits like health insurance and paid holidays. I also expect flexible working hours and opportunities to work on international projects or continue training. I want a job that is both challenging and rewarding, where I can apply what I’ve learned and contribute to creating better machines and technologies that help people and industries.
