 You can restrain a dog using your hands/body. You should have training and be confident with said training before you attempt it. You should have some experience with animals and restraint. Specifically, you should be working in an animal setting such as being a veterinary assistant/nurse. If a dog is nervous or scared, you should muzzle it as a precaution. A restraining snare may be necessary to provide adequate restraint if the pig needs to be restrained for a long amount of time. The person snaring should have proper training in how to use it correctly. How to use a restraining snare: 1. Place loop in mouth, over top jaw/snout. 2. Hold snare handle vertically. 3. Move loop back before tightening. Release the pig as soon as possible. Do not move or tie the pig up with the snare. This would be used for close examinations, administrating injections, collecting blood samples, collection of milk samples, reading ear numbers. It allows you to health check and medicate the chicken and check for any injuries, infections and illness. Also it prevents the chicken from flapping about or pecking you. It has holes at the bottom so the legs can dangle freely And it allows the chickens body to breathe and move about normally. And it helps to keep the chicken really relaxed.
But over a period of time the chicken can become distressed and start to struggle. Also when the chicken defecates in the bag it needs to be taken out and has to be cleaned out. There are 2 pieces of legislation that orders dogs to wear muzzles. They are The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. 
The Dangerous Dogs Act enforces the control of dangerous dogs and if they are deemed to be dangerous dogs in public they will be ordered to wear a muzzle in public. The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 prohibits 4 dog breeds that will have to be restrained at all times in public if they are deemed safe. These breeds are:
 
  • Pit Bull Terrier.
  • Japanese Tosa.
  • Dogo Argentino.
  • Fila Brasileiro.

Twitch
The twitch is useful to restrain a horse before a painful procedure, to examine it or give it treatment. A horse will normally stand still when the twitch has been put on.
It is known that a twitch placed correctly on the nose causes the release of natural pain-killing substances in the horse’s body. Twitches are not as useful for donkeys, which seem to be frightened by them.
A twitch can be made from a wooden pole or long axe handle with a hole in the end. A rope loop about 50 cm long is tied through the hole.
To put the twitch on the upper lip, first put three fingers and thumb through the loop. If you hold the lip with three fingers like this, the loop does not get caught over your hand when you start to tighten it.
