September 1st, 1964-
THis is where I will be recording all of my thoughts and accomplishments leading up to the journey of space! Before going on the the space craft, I had interesting careers. I worked as a scout for the Soviet army. I attended Moscow N.E. Bauman Higher Technical School and worked for a time as a factory engineer. In 1955 I earned the equivalent of a Ph.D. and from that time I worked in the Soviet space program designing spacecraft and equipment. I was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour after the launching of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1. I was also awarded Order of the Red Banner of Labour again after the first successful manned flight by Yury Gagarin.

October 10th
There are many things about me that make me so popular in the space community. To start with, I the only Soviet astronaut who was not a member of the Communist Party. The mission I was going on was crowded with two others besides me, a doctor and a military commander, into a small spacecraft called the Voskhod. There were many things we were going to be doing in space. Most of the research we would be doing was orbit the Earth many times, and see how many different people and things react in space. If i'm being completely honest, I was super scared to fly but I had the reassurance of knowing that I helped design this spacecraft.

October 12th, 1964-
This is the moment i've been counting down for years, and it's finally here! I'm going into space today! I made my first and only space flight on Oct. 12, 1964 aboard the USSR's Voskhod 1 on a one-day mission to test the craft's design, perform biomedical research and to study how a multi-disciplinary team could work together in space. Aloft for a day, the spacecraft orbited the Earth numerous times while we conducted experiments on fruit flies and plants. We also took blood and made measurements to determine how humans reacted to being in space. The mission was considered a major Soviet triumph, and Soviet television showed both live and recorded footage of us three astronauts. The Russian space agency said the expedition made me “the first spacecraft designer to have tested his brainchild under real conditions. In an interview I stated, ” I was so excited, and I wanted to do it all again!
