The Giver most likely died to reunite with his daughter Rosemary, like he said once he is done with his work. Thus Jonnas recieved the memory of music, that the Giver kept himself, so theres a good chance that he died and the memory got released.

Jonas did die in the end of the story because before he reached the summit, he had happy memories of community life indicating that he is going back into this memories to try to help him in the situation. He was slowly loosing consciousness and the lights could be an illusion that he was Elsewhere.

I think that the Giver may have died because, at the end of the story, Jonas received a memory of music. Earlier, he rejected the memory because he wanted the Giver to keep it.

I think that the community's use of bikes proves that the community does not want people to escape and or die from accidents from other methods of transport. The memories may have caused the community to quit using motorized vehicles.

Without the Giver, there won't be a reciever. The title proved the importance/ influence of the Giver on Jonas

He would have died because he had no supplies. However, since music brought Jonas happiness, it would have boosted him and made him elude. He probably imagined everything before he died and died a happy life after thinking of music.

I think that Jonas did die at the end of the story. The sled is the first happy memory that Jonas experiences, and he is hallucinating when he is about to die.

It symbolizes the sameness because they all have the same color eyes. Paleness could also symbolize each person's own uniqueness.

I think Pale eyes symbolize the sameness because everyone is supposed to have the same eyes, however; Jonas and Gabriel had unique eyes. These pale eyes mean that people (Jonas and Gabriel) could see more clearly...seeing beyond.

A perfect society is too subjective and one wouldn't be able to experience life without hard memories such as pain. Pain and suffering complete life instead of just making a perfect world where no one is used to the bad things.

It's just a part of life that we experience, so there is at least some importance in feeling pain or suffering. In the story, Jonas' community is lifeless because nobody except the Giver and Jonas can experience emotion. - Sophia H.

It represents love. For example, he can see Fiona's hair, which shows his crush on her. Maybe also pain because of the blood through war and suffering.

Could Jonas's community become a utopia?

No, because a perfect world, a utopia, is very subjective. One person's paradise can be another person's prison. Also, a utopia could just as easily be argued as a dystopia.

Jonas's personality is optimistic because he didn't need the memories of bravery from the Giver to believe in his plan of escaping the community with Gabreil.

Many countries that are under dictatorship limit citizen rights and have strict rules, often not allowing citizens not to leave the community.

The game of war involved kids shooting imaginary weapons to each other, which reminded him of the memory of warfare, where he saw the young soldier begging for water and dying right in front of him. "In his mind, Jonas saw again the face of the boy who had lain dying on a field and had begging him for water" (Lowry 133 - 134).
