Story "The Three Little Pigs"

1) YAL

-The style is simple and rhyme is typical of poetry that children are familiar with.

-There is a focus on actions instead of people, places and emotions: for example, what the wolf and Little Red Riding Hood did in the story is more important than the description of characters.

-The protagonists are animals.

-Safety as a central concern: Pig number 3 called Little Red Riding Hood to feel secure (colonialism).

-The text insist that chindren continue to need adult protection: the pigs = children; the girl= adults.

2) THE HIDDEN ADULT

-The story reported a "happy ending" that represented an adult wish for children. In this case a representation of an adult figure saved a child.

-Adult knowledge: only an adult could save the child (pig).

-Focus on home and make home meaningful: the houses of the three little pigs as a secure place before the arrival of the wolf.

3) REALISTIC FICTION

-The story happened to animals portrayed realistically.

-Its is believable: Even though the protagonists were animals, the situation of an adult helping the weakest is believable in real life.

-Humor: the way in which the wolf died is funny.

Estefanía Díaz

THE BLANKET

This is a story told in first person in which the protagonist fears falling asleep. This is because he always has a recurring dream in which a blanket chases and wraps him. In the story, the 13-year-old teenager refers to how this recurring dream affects him in his daily life and in his interpersonal relationships. In the end, he expresses his desire to never want to have the same dream again, but deep down he knows that this will continue to happen.

I interpret that the child suffers of sexual abuse within the family, suffering and at the same time resigning himself to his fate.

LICKED

is the story of a boy who challenges his parents' authority, especially his father', during a visit to his house by his father's boss. During the visit, Andrew, the boy, behaves in an indecorous manner while they are eating. He eats with his mouth open and makes noises that bother adults. However, his parents made a deal not to challenge him for this reason, at least during the meal, since his father constantly emphasizes how he should behave while eating. Then, Andrew decides to "eat" some flies that he had crushed with his new fly swat, making his father's boss vomit and his father get very angry. The next day the boy confesses that they were not really flies, but currants and little bits of licorice that he had bought before.

I think that the child is at a transition age between childhood and adolescence in which he challenges adults in his search for identity. What also happens at this age is the constant need to challenge parental authority.

Estefanía Díaz
