“It is difficult to envision a period when teaching in the United States has been more difficult, more riddled with pressure, or more laden with tension that it is now.”

This was probably written in the early 2000's times were changing with technology in education, but not nearly like they are today. I would say with the unrest in our country do to race, politics, and COVID are jobs are the hardest they have ever been. We are expected to change our whole profession in the drop of a hat, and teach all digitally when most had no experience at all. The emotional and physical needs have increased and the amount of time to accomplish it all has remained the same.

This could have been written in any time line, but mostly this year. Tensions are constantly changing schedules, cleaning all the time, measuring desk distances, connecting with sick students. SO MUCH more difficult now.

This quote might have been written around twenty-years ago. With the current White House initiative to promote a "Patriotic" curriculum for social studies and a College Board still driven to analyze multiple perspectives it is likely going to be difficult to serve "all masters". Our polarized political climate makes the mere act of analysis contentious; therefore, it feels like instructors are under attack from all sides.

I would say that this was written 20+ years ago. The pressure that educators are feeling now with teaching during Covid are definitely related to learning new things/teaching with technology since many districts are hybrid or distance learning. I'm not sure if it's any easier or harder right now. I think throughout the years there have been many challenges, just different, depending on the newest education trends.

With the added stresses of standardized testing, social/emotional needs of students, it makes teaching a delicate form of art.

The accountability from both the students and teachers seem to be at an all time high.

Written during WW2. Shortages of everything roles were changed.
Teaching is more difficult now because our roles are changing. Parents are more hands on, we are more "facilitators". Crossing our fingers.
It is harder for many because "hands are off". Student failure is happening at a much quicker rate.
