I believe that the Peruvian girl changed the author by showing her how other girls and young women live without the option of education. She is able to use her privilege of her education to be able to help other young women around the world. She turns this into responsibility and determination to challenge the "impossible" and help people. "My almond-scented hairspray did nothing to overpower the smell of llama dung and cuy (roasted
guinea pig) emanating through the Peruvian flea market." I believe that this phrase shows rather than tells because it is very specific and you can understand the conditions in this Peruvian Flea Market without actually being there.

Motivating people to make a change in the world and that anybody can if they try to.

A passage with figurative language is in the paragraph where she is talking about guiding blind skiers "They tasted the crisp air, smelled the sunshine, and listened to the whispers of tree
branches." This is an example of imagery, when you read this you can feel and smell and hear exactly what the author is saying. Also the girl changed the author by showing her the reality of the real world. She was worried about the smells while this little girl was fighting to have enough money to survive. This moment lived in her memory when she came home and she tried to help get involved and help others who were struggling with this same situation. This shows how much she cares for others and is thinking about more than just herself. She is also determined to make change because when she found an obstacle she did not give in, she kept pushing for change.

The little girl drastically changed how the author viewed the world. When the author was enlightened to the fact that the girl had to sell pictures of an Alpaca to survive it deeply saddened her. Instead of just moving on however she became determined to send other girls to school. Eventually she was able to raise enough money to send a girl to school and it motivated her to continue fighting for more girls educations.

The author uses a lot of imagery describing her experience meeting the girl. She described the "stifling heat and smell" to make the scene more lifelike. She also showed her determination by describing the word impossible in different ways, saying that she could always strive towards the impossible. This is what the Peruvian girl pushed her to do, by changing her perspective of the world and showing her a way in which people were suffering. This is what lead her to both start her philanthropy, as well as change her view of the impossible.
