I know at least in ELA class I have opportunity to expose students to diversity on a daily basis through stories and poetry, and include BIPOC voices in every unit, but I believe this possible across all curriculum. This helps to make up for the lack of diversity that Matt mentions in student body (although it seems to be more diverse at WMHS now).

If I could go back in time to high school, I would urge myself to join more activities or clubs. Many of us introverts really do not like unstructured social time. Words like "party","mingling", and "networking" are fairly terrifying, so telling shy people to "network" or "put yourself out there" is not at all helpful. Joining a group where there is something to DO is a much more comfortable way to make friends and build a network of relationships.
