The sneetches don't think sameness as a good thing. They were always taught that Star-bellied sneetches are better. So the not all sneetches where treated the same. In the giver they want everyone the same. They don't want point out different or treat people differently which is the opposite in the sneetches. In the giver one rule is not to point out difference or treat people differently. But they still do like they put shame to being a birthmother, or if you work at night you don't have the skills to have a spouse or social skills.

Or he will become an apple tree and take of from not knowing.

When Jonas first enters the givers home he notices if it very different from his house. For example, there where books all along the walk where he thought there were only 3 books that existed, the furniture was much more luxurious than in his dwelling. There where even locks on doors which he had never seen, and he was even allowed to shut of the speaker. For the giver to be able to transmit memories to the receiver he need to be focused. There are memories in his brain from years ago that he need to pull out and give to Jonas. He need a quiet environment. The speakers can also listen to what is going on in each dwelling, and only him and Jonas can know those memories or words he is learning.

Jonas as well as other kids in the community where never told there was a whole world around them. He thinks it's only now there was no past. This could be a good way to live because then people in that community will never know that the whole world isn't a utopia, and people don't live perfectly. They don't know about all the violence and problems that people have that they never even knew existed.
