TEACHING CONTEXT

The school where I work is big and there are beauticians, hairdressers, waiters and cooks. This year I am teaching to beauticians. I have classes with students coming from 9-10 different countries (Brasil, Romania, Moldavia, Morocco, Algeria, Poland, Latvia, China, Nigeria, ecc.).

I need new strategies to afford these classes and create a good atmosphere.

In my school we have all the technology we need: laboratories, tablet pcs, computer science labs, interactive whiteboards in every classroom, e-diary.....

2.2 Building communication channels with parents

2.3 Communicating with parents of different socio-economic/cultural/language backgrounds

teaching in a vocational school there are students belonging to the very different families (from the doctor, to the worker, to the parents who cannot even use a personal computer or do not have internet connection at home. there are also a lot of students coming from abroad who are here as migrants or only to study. some parents cannot speak Italian. with these i try to use one of the six languages I know or we contact a "mediatore culturale" ready to translate and also to present the cultural aspects of these families.
As every student is different from the Others and would need a personalized learningg also parents are very different so we have to invent strategies good for each of them. there are also parents of handicaped children who have problems like their children sometimes. that's why it is very diffucult to have good contacts with parents. But we call them every time we need. only if there a good relation between school and families you can reach some objectives.

2.4 ICT tools to support communication & sharing with parents
techology is becoming very important in the relation with parents. for example from this year we have a e-diary at school and parents can interact with us also through this. also the site for families with moodle is very developed.
online communication and data sharing is Always possible, unfortunately a lot of parents are not able to enter the line and the site. only parents of good students regularly come to meetings or check the online e-diary.
