In the presentation done in class, it was stated that there were at least three tools to gather students needs, strengths and weaknesses.

As an example, we showed the CIMA instrument done with students of 7th, 10th and 12th grade from a countryside school, with no connection to internet and few projectors able to use. At the end of the survey, we found two main issues among the three courses:

1. Our students are not able to skim through a text
2. Our students have lack comprehension when they read

In addition, 7th graders showed interest in games and superheroes, while the 10th and 12th graders were more interested in music and socialization between peers.

With this information, we want you to help this students to improve these weaknesses in a way that would be meaningful for them according to the literature presented.

In order to enhance motivation in our students, it is very important to include our students' interests in the materials we prepare for them. This is the most attractive way to teach them the content of our subject. Besides, if we use things that our students know, such as games, popular singers or movies, or information about cities they have visited, we will be creating a task in which our students will perform better than if we teach them using unkown (or less attractive) topics. Furthermore, it is vital to balance our students' needs and interests with the curriculum demanded by our Ministry of Education, which is all a challenge.

As a tip for the future, it is a good idea to survey our students and ask them their likes, dislikes and interests at the beginning of a course so we can know what kind of topics and materials we can include in our lesson plans to make our classes more interesting for them.

To improve their skimming skill, I would present the following activity:
1) "You have 60 seconds to quickly read the text and guess what is the main topic of the text"
2) "You have 40 seconds to quickly read the text again and to make a list of 10 key concepts"

To prompt students' reading comprehension, it is important that as teachers we connect the information that students are receiving from the text with their context so as to develop critical thinking and make the reading process more meaningful. To do this, I will present a set of questions about the reading and connect them with the students' interests and background. Students will have to work in pairs in order to promote collaborative work and social skills.

After working with the graphic, the students will have the option to create their own survey about the activities that students do in their free time and to apply it to their classmates. At the end of that session they will report their results. The main objective is to increise their motivation in the lesson
