Drugs interfere or enhance with the neurotransmitters and the process of how they communicate with the brain. Agonistic drugs enhance the messages that are being carried by the neurotransmitters. Antagonistic drugs interferes with the transmission of the neurotransmitter messages. Most drugs affect the brain's reward system by flooding it with dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that regulate movement, motivation, emotion, and feelings of pleasure. The more people use drugs, the less dopamine your body makes, causing people to want more of it. The body gets used to having dopamine enter the body, so it doesn't make its own because it relies on dopamine entering in the body from another source.
