Overall, this certain document helped me understand just how greatly the death of our country's 16th president effected our country and the people as well. This gives me more information that i didn't get to see when watching the movie as far as how badly the death of Lincoln affected everything. it halted all celebration that the Union had planned because the whole country was mourning the death of one of the greatest Presidents the country had every had

During the Lincoln movie you never actually get to hear or see Lincoln give the Gettysburg address we only see a few young men at the begin of the movie quoting the address to Lincoln. So getting to read the Gettysburg address on the american battlefield trust website you get to see and I also get o understand what exactly the young men in the opening scene of Lincoln are quoting and why they all felt it was so important that they knew the address and were able to quote the address by heart. So for me this extra source of information helped me lot i understanding that being movie sequence

The movie Lincoln had a lot of amazing things that helped with understanding our President on a level that we don't learn in our history classes. But the ending of the movie for me was not a ending that I had really wanted i would have definitely have put the assassination of Lincoln soon instead of it being at the end i would have made the ending of the movie about the 13th amendment and how even though we no longer had Lincoln i the office due to his death he was still able to make such a important impact on our country.I didn't necessarily see the point in having the parts of the movie that showed Lincoln's issues that he was having with his wife i just didn't see the relevance o having that portion of the movie there that for me was an unnecessary addition into the movie that wasn't really needed. I understand having it there because it shows that this war was not just effecting out president in a political way but also in his personal life with his wife but i just don't think i as a director would have put that in the movie

Watching the movie Lincoln showed me as a History student some of the guys that we don't hear about in history class like Thaddeus Stevens who i had actually never heard of was a really huge and critical part in the passing of the 13th amendment. In which i learned that Thaddeus Stevens had spent most of his life trying to find a way to end slavery and with Lincoln as President he was able to do that.(the link below shows a biography of Thaddeus Stevens and his work as a congress man and how influential he was in the passing of the 13th amendment.)Also when watching the movie i saw and learned how many of the men in congress that wanted to end slavery had to many times change their position to get the passing of the 13th amendment many of the congressmen had to change what the said around many republican and democrats as well so that they could get the amendment passed since many thought the idea of absolute everyone no matter the color of their skin or anything else should have equal rights was too radical for many of members of the house of representatives to understand or open there minds to.

The main point and idea of the movie Lincoln in my eyes is the effort and struggle for our former President to pass the 13th amendment. I really think this played out throughout the entire movie because the whole movie you can see the struggles and the fights that Lincoln went through to try and get the amendment passed. To me this whole movie showed the other part of the civil war that we as students don't really learn about even when taking classes like ACP American History or even just taking a normal U.S History class.
The basic plot of the movie Lincoln is about the struggles that our 16th president had while trying to do what he felt was right in ending slavery.during this movie you learn all about the passing of the 13th amendment and how it happened and all the people that were involved in trying to get this amendment passed. Many people really were a huge part of getting the amendment passed people like Thaddeus Stevens, while watching this you get an inside look on Lincoln's struggling relationship with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln as well a]s the struggle of hes eldest son Robert Todd Lincoln wanting to leave law school and enlist in the military to fight in the civil war.

However, i personally don't think I would just watch this movie if i was at home and just wanted a movie to watch so for me i don't personally recommend this movie for entertainment purposes.I really loved this movie it gave me so much information and details on what was going on during the passing of the 13th amendment

Overall, when reading the actual We Ask a Historian:Just how accurate is the movie 'Lincoln' a historian that spoke in the interview says that in the film they show Lincoln in the case of his prime reason for starting the Civil War was primarily based on freeing slaves at least that is what the film portrays unfortunately that is not correct in the case at all. In actuality Lincoln primary purpose was actually becasue he saw the progression that the south was making and he wanted to save the Union from that Lincoln wanted the north or the union to surpass the south which is the actual reasoning behind the start of the Civil War. However, that doesn't mean that Lincoln hadn't wanted to free the slaves because he did just not for the reasons that we had always thought. The reason for Lincoln wanting to free the slaves were for his own ethical gain in the case of he thought if we get rid of Slavery we bring down the south and the union of higher power. Unfortunately these things were not working for Lincoln political gain so we running for reelection in 1864 he had a better understanding for true Liberty and Union and that would be a country without slavery. So when running again he had the slogan Liberty and Union.

Lincoln Assassination

Overall, watching Lincoln you get to see exactly what happened that day with both John Wilkes Booth and Lincoln you see that fatal shot that ended the life of our great President. However, you don't get the sense of devastation that the country felt because the assassination of Lincoln was at the end of the movie so you never really get to see just how greatly the impact of the death of Lincoln was to our country. Fortunately we have sources like that of Harper's Weekly that tells and explains and also has the interference of the country and how greatly affected everyone was by the assassination. Getting to read the newspaper that was put out just days after the assassination you really get the understanding of how everyone looked at Lincoln but you also get the knowledge of knowing that not just was our country affected politically because now at that point we had no President but the country as a whole was completely devastated. These are always in which Harper's Weekly helped me.
