Typical Jazz Band

The typical Jazz Band, a smaller group of performers, usually consisted of two cornet players, one clarinet player and a trombone player. Pianos, tubas, banjos and drums sometimes accominied the assemby as well. We would bring in a small band to play similar jazz music.

Big Band Jazz

As time progressed and jazz became bigger culturally, jazz bands grew. Along with being larger, Big Band Jazz was also referred to as being "smoother, with lighter rhythms." A Big Band consisted of three parts: Brass instruments, Rhythm Instruments, and Reeds. Brass Instruments consisted of things such as trumpets and trombones, and Reeds included Saxophones and clarinets. Rhythm instrunments were the larger kind, covering pianos, guitars, double basses and drums. Just as the typical band, we would have a similar band come in and show off their instruments and music.

New Orleans

New Orleans was considered to be one of the most popular places during the Jazz Age in the music industry. Many african americans gathered in New Orleans during the 1900's and brought their culture with them. This resulted in the creation of many new jazz bands and clubs.
